I have the opertunity to get either a VooDoo pc laptop or and alienware laptop. I was wondering what people here thought on the 2 companies. The Voodoo is a 3 ghz p4 ht with 1 gb ram ati 9600 with 128 meg ram dvd +/-rw 60 gig 7200 rpm drive or I can configure a area51m 7700 laptop from alien ware.

To what extent/price can you configure the Alienware?

You should check Widow PC before you buy from either of those companies.....www.widowpc.com.

If its absolutley a choice between those two companies alone, I'd choose Alienware.
I own a AW notebook that I love, but its mostly based on customer service, AW CS tops Dell's IMHO, least from personal experience.
I on otherhand had a bad experience with voodoo when I was shopping around for development stations.

Yeah, the real question here, of course, is "Do you have to buy from one of those over-inflated price-whores," or can you buy the same PC elsewhere, and spend the extra money on hookers and beer? (Ok, or maybe on more memory...)

Just pray they don't require you to be mobile with that shit.
I have to carry around a Thinkpad R51 and it's too heavy as it is.

True, those particular models (AW/VooDoo) are probably meant more for desktop replacement than super mobility, heh.
P.S. Eek! Voodoo is Canadian! :p

Yah..mostly meant as desktop replacements or small travel (like I take mine back and forth to my office alot, but not say..on the road).
I have a very very small 12inch apple notebook I love for actual traveling, weighs like 2lbs or less..can use the damn thing as a frisbee.

Well, grats SC. At least you got a decent deal.
For future reference and if anyone gives a crap:
Dell makes what is considered the best gaming laptop now. Its spendy at like 4500 bux, but you would pay that for the other two. Maybe its not as "cool" as the other two, but it runs as fast if not faster and if it breaks you know they have your back.
