Outside of that nagging feeling that things will go very badly if Bush and Co. aren't stopped, I don't think of myself as a conspiracy theorist. BUT - voting honesty is a growing concern, and we've speculated here about all sorts of fun like martial law or increased terrorist attacks if those in power don't like the outcome of the upcoming elections.

Why isn't more noise made about voting regulation?

http://www.guerrillafunk.com/thoughts/doc000023.html - Note the sources at the bottom of this alarmist looking page. Some sources better than others.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/28/us/28vote.html?fta=y - A year old, but yikes?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/03/opinion/03sun2.html?_r=1&oref=slogin - Somewhat more recent, just an opinion piece.

Any thoughts on what the future holds for us?

There were enough irregularities just in the primaries that I can't imagine how distorted the general election will be.

For example, there were some areas of Texas with thousands of Ron Paul supporters, where he got 0.0 votes in the primary. That's simply not possible.

Similarly, I believe I read about at least one precinct in IL where Obama got 0 votes. Also impossible.

The most frustrating thing about it is that secure electronic voting is absolutely possible. I honestly don't know if Diebold & Co are simply inept or if they are complicit, but the problem isn't very difficult to solve.

In florida we actually went back to 100% paper ballots. Think about how screwed up the electronic voting had to be for us to do that. Voting regulation just isn't flashy enough to get even a fraction of the attention it deserves.

Maybe if we make 10,000 billboards about aborted votes...
