That doesn't really seem to send the correct message...

She didn't do it because she wanted a free house...that's a complete asshole statement San.
Beware what looms on the horizon.

I know she didn't, but again, what message does that send to others who are desperate and in poor mental condition at this point?
Maybe if I hang myself, my family will keep the house?

Kind of a tough speculation. When you see people in such stages of despair over losing their homes, remember these are not investors who were playing the flip the house game, these are people whos homes are being taken. That is terrible.
That woman, without looking at the article again, was 90 years old, had gone for a reverse mortgage after her husband died and was fucked over by some greedy piece of shit broker so eager to get, I would guess about $2500 dollars that he suckers her into a shit bag loan knowing full well she wanted a reverse mortgage.
People went to buy homes, not houses and they were suckered into these shitty deals which these brokers and bankers KNEW they couldn't afford but people trusted them when they went for these loans.
Look, I'm 47 years old, I've been an owner and managing partner in my business for almost 14 years. I make good money and you have to be really good to sell me a shit job, but when I go into a bank I go in fully expecting to be dealt with honestly and openly, at least I used to expect that.
You want to hang people for getting foreclosed on, look at those who were trying to make a quick buck, it was a business decision gone bad, but when these people went to buy their homes, it wasn't business to them, they expected truth and got sold a load of shit, they have NO blame in this.
The people to blame are these brokers, bankers and buyers of these securities, they created and pulled off one of the greatest ponzi schemes in history and our government from the president down to the most freshman of members of congress just handed them the biggest fucking golden parachute you'll ever see.
And we all sit by and say wow...we just got by on that one. We need to vote out every motherfucker in that place in november regardless of their vote.

Huh? This doesn't have anything to do with who is at fault.
An awful lot of the people who got suckered into these bad loans will read about this much into that story:
# Story Highlights
# NEW: Company says it will return home to woman who shot herself during eviction
# Neighbor climbs through window, finds woman bleeding
# Congressman mentions incident during House debate on bailout
# Kucinich: "This bill does nothing for the Addie Polks of the world"
Again, it sends a bad message to others. Invoking The Werther Effect is the last thing we need in a time like this.

Forgive me, I'm very passionate about this subject. They are doing this because this woman has one whopper of a lawsuit against these people.

I'm with Sanchek on this one. A lot of people on the edge out there don't need much of a catalyst to make the move, and this kind of thing would, in my opinion, encourage at least a little more 'self mutilation.' Seems pretty common-sense to me.
