I've been using go-dedicated.com for a while now and more and more consistantly they're down. This week they've been down for about a week and its not back up yet.
So a few questions. One, can they be held accountable at all? They took my clients all for $11 / month each (so figure about $120 or so total from my company) and haven't even contacted me as of why they are down.

Secondly, what is a good hosting company you all use?

Lastly, should they come back up is there a way to take the databases certain clients of mine use and transfer them to the new hosting company - should their site ever come back up?

For $11/mo, you should really be able to expect 99.9% uptime on a basic Linux based site, but you're probably not going to be able to get anything out of them.

You can pretty easily backup and restore databases between hosts, assuming you can get connected to the old database server long enough to run a backup.

What kind of hosting are you looking for? How much traffic, what kind of database, etc?

Well one of them has a forum about as busy as this one. Another is an ecommerce site that I don't think is very popular at all. Bulk of them are informational sites that probably don't have huge traffic loads either.

What kind of hosting? Linux? Windows? Is it all PHP and mySql or is there anything higher end?

Just php and mySQL. Linux probably easiest.

I've always been the graphics and design end and had someone else handle this stuff for me - but they moved to Wisconsin :(

I've got a site hosted at midPhase (https://midphase.com/) that runs about 50k pageviews/mo and is always very quick and responsive. I'm not terribly impressed with their control panel, but tech support is very responsive and fills in the gaps well enough.

For low traffic PHP/mySql sites, I'd be comfortable recommending them (not sure how well they scale for larger projects though).

I use Omnis for all my website... www.omnis.com

The rates are fairly resaonable and they offer Windows as well as Unix hosting.

I have used Omnis for Windows hosting in the past. I never had an issue with them.
