We have a wide range of tech savy people here, was curious if anyone is experienced in live webcasting. I have a client that wants to cover a live event this summer in Vegas for around 1000 viewers. We realistically can't afford satellite time and I'm sure over-the-net streaming is strong enough now that this would be a viable alternative. Given that the topic is one that would be of interest to everyone on these boards, I figured I would ask here first if anyone does it or knows a company that does.

I've never done live video myself, but I do know they just open-sourced the whole platform used to stream the Winter Olympics: http://smf.codeplex.com/

If you can take a dependency on Silverlight and afford the server-side resources to run its streaming server (http://www.iis.net/expand/SmoothStreaming), the quality is hard to match.

I'm gonna just say I'm probably not smart enough to get that stuff set up and working reliably while also producing the live show. That being said its comforting that the software and capabilities are out there and probably not that expensive.
