No, really.

It appears that the avian flu has made the jump. It's on the other side of the world and if the World Health Organization can get a quarantine on it fast, maybe it won't be so bad...but...lest we forget.

I shall begin hording dry goods and building my self contained bomb shelter now.

The doctor said the youngsters most likely contracted the virus while playing with the heads of dead chickens infected with the disease.
Parents, take note, no playing with dead chicken heads by the young'uns.

This isn't the "jump" we're worried about though. If there were evidence of human-to-human transmission, the scat would hit the fan.

I see dead chicken.

And Thor beat me to it, no human-to-human transmission yet.

And don't play with dead chicken heads. Chuck Norris could have said that!

Huseyin Avni Sahin, the head doctor at Van hospital where the children died, told CNN Turk 23 people were now being treated at his hospital for suspected bird flu.

I know that's not proof, but it's certainly worth taking note. I seriously doubt that there are 23 people that also were playing with dead chicken heads...in the house. Gah!

Oh, and Shannah, there's not enough rooms for an extra person, but you can share mine, if you like. ;)

The problem with remote rural areas that people do not have the mobility (ie the cash to jump on an airplane) to carry a mutant virus to highly populated areas and travel hubs which would trigger a pandemic.

Now if there were people dying from birdflu in an Istanbul hospital I would consider buying tinned food and fuel in mass quantities.

I blame rap music for getting kids to play with chicken heads, All those chicken head songs should be abolished.

Was reading a report the other day where they aren't saying IF the human to human transmission would begin to happen but WHEN it would.

I'm not so sure the deaths of people who play with dead chicken heads is a BAD thing. I always hate the hype. They did the same garbage with SARS. It's like they're looking to INVENT a pandemic if they can't find one soon!

What's even more disturbing than the fact that the kids had been playing with the chicken's heads in the house is that it states they'd been playing with them for days. Perhaps a massive soccer ball drop could quell the avian flu epidemic.
