View Full Version : West Wing parallels

There have been many references during the campaign to the television program "The West Wing". Jimmy Smits, who played the Latino candidate for President apparently spent some time with Obama preparing for the role of a young fairly inexperienced candidate. One of Smits first acts following winning the election was to ask Alan Alda (the Republican experienced old war-horse who lost the election) to be his Secretary of State.
What are the chances of Obama reaching out to McCain in the same fashion, and would it be a good selection? Would it help bridge the partisan gap at all? And, if McCain wins, is there any chance of his reaching out with any offer of inclusion in his cabinet?
Any thoughts, while we await the results of today's voting?

if McCain win, hell no, he wont even look the guy in the face during a debate..
If Obama wins, would be interesting to say the least.

It would be a nice reach across the asile if Obama did that. Might be the step needed to heal the fractures that have apparently grown over the past 8 years.

As long as Obama didn't include Palin in anything, I think it would be great for healing the partisan divide in this country

Fuck McCain, we saw how easily he'll sell out his values for power. I doubt Obama would even concider that.
There are a bunch of better options, imo.
Oh yeah, did Joe Biden die last night? That would be a creepy parallel.

Well, Obama's grandmother being a strong force in his development and passing just before the election has some parallel, I suppose.
And in terms of better options for Obama to reach out to, I still like Lindsey Graham even after he blindly followed McCain's lead in praising Palin as a qualified candidate.

Obama will put Republicans in his cabinet.
There is, however, NO room in there for McCain or Palin. =P
