I voted yes. They should get hookers, regularly.

I think it is an issue that is best left up to each guild, just like loot distribution. There will always be those who take offense at anyone getting something that they themselves are not getting, and they will gravitate to a guild that does not reward anyone but instead has a strictly black and white system with no gray areas.

In a dkp system, no. Since the officers will (usually) play more often, and be rewarded simply from that.

If you don't use dkp.... I wish you luck.

I vote no. Even as a guild leader and enjoying all the drama that goes with it I don't think I should be given anything extra no matter how small it is. Now if people want to donat real life $ I wouldn't be opposed ;) j/k.

Just as Disc says, the leadership tends to be more involved than the membership. Looking at our current standings nearly every officer of mine and myself have attended every raid and we are all in the top ranks of those with points. I couldn't imagine getting more just b/c of a title that would probably piss people off.

Im pretty torn on this actually. Officers put in alot of extra work. How ever if they were to get free loot then there would most likely being someone upset. So i guess i would be in favor depending on what it is. Maybe a Dkp bonus? quarterly or bi annually i dunno /shrug

I figure it is up to the guild as a whole. If this is coming from what Twinked said...it works for them, so I guess that shows that people can handle it

I voted yes, they should be getting some "head".

I do DKP and am class captain for the shaman in my guild. I'd never dream of asking for something extra. I do what I do because I enjoy it...and because it helps the guild out. I'll do whatever my guild leader asks me to if it will make his life easier.

Officers have a rough job, but if you give them extra reward then you'd have a lot of people wanting to be an officer whether they're qualified or not. In a system where you elect officers, you'd turn it into even more a popularity contest circus than it already is. In a system where they're appointed, you'd have people trying to backstab their way into the positions.

Nothing good could come of offering people incentive to turn against each other.

(This is coming from someone who was an officer or guildleader basically the entire time I played EQ. I know how bad it sucks.)

I am not sure a pure yes or no poll could cover all the instances or ways a system could be implemented. There are certainly ways to abuse the system by giving too much, but there are ways to reward those who do extra work without giving them a big advantage.

It's something that should be done on a guild by guild basis, it may work for some, but not for others. If it is to be implemented though a good suggestion is to have a vote on it before putting it in play and 9 times out of 10 the suggestion for giving bonuses or incentives didn't come from officers themselves but from players who appreciate the hard work their officers do.

And hi, haven't seen many of you in a while. :)

Indeed, rewarding leadership with something extra is a bad idea. I'm not saying they don't deserve it - trust me, I know how much work it is - but that's one hell of a way to tunnel under your authority. One of the problems typically presented to leadership is the whole "us and them" mentality between the guild's leadership and its members. No need to make that any worse than it already is.

Depends on the guild really, at the top of the food chain where you have plenty of very good recruits the leadership can do whatever they damn please as long as the guild is progressing and stays on top of the food chain.
That includes giving extra dkp for leading raids or giving dkp penalty for someone who looks at you the wrong way.... :devil

Joke aside, I been officer in two different raiding guilds in my 4 years of EQ and believe me it is reward enough if people appreciate your work by not trying to screw you every day.
It is reward enough if the dumbasses won't question your every decision.
It is reward enough if people do their job on the raids instead of 'knowing better'.

I voted no, just because I know that people will accuse officers of favoritism no matter how fair the system is even if they have no ground or proof for it. Giving rewards (dkp or loot or whatever) would only make that worse.

I voted yes.... after having seen both sides... being an officer is a thankless job.

Might be a lot less thankless if everyone feels like officers are being exploitive!

I voted yes.... after having seen both sides... being an officer is a thankless job.And for the most part, should remian so.

I don't have a huge in-game presence right now, work, home - they've changed for me recently, and my time is limited. But I've been either at or near the helm of Vision/VA for, well...the better part of this century. I've donated countless hours and dollars to keep the guild running. In return, I ask to be treated like everyone else, and occasionally have someone in my guild say "thank you."

Fortunately for me, from time to time, they do.

Most of my officers/CLs/leaders already get more DKP than the bulk of the guild, becuase they play EverQuest with a passion still. Our officers take on the thankless job because they love the guild, not because they need a bump in pay.

If taking your team to where they want to go isn't reward enough, you have no business being in a position of leadership. Sadly we've long forgotten about that in the real world, but can still hold up such ideals in fantasy.

Sumamael hit the nail on the head. For me, it was reward enough to get to take my friends to places many of them would never have had the chance to see otherwise, as casual players with very limited playtime, and to be part of people's excitement; but I can tell you, having co-led a guild where we did not even use a DKP system, but instead randomed loot to folks who could use it, people *still* accused the leaders of favoritism. Giving any sort of 'perks' to officers is problematic in three ways: 1) it exacerbates any feelings/perceptions of inequity about treatment, real or imagined, that members have; 2) it leads to an attitude that officers are 'better', on some ill-defined level, than the guild rank and file; and 3) it inescapably attracts folks who wish to be officers *because* of the perks/elevated status, and in that sense is ultimately an unsavory and corrosive influence on the guild.

Be happy for what you are doing together, and if you are using a dkp system, that in itself should make sure that those who are working hard get their fair share...

officers should get more boobies than the rest of the guild... imho

I was more than satisfied with the extra perks of leadership: free headaches, bonus gray hairs, extra hours awake each nice gratis, etc. That said, more boobies are always nice.

Having final say on recruiting decisions, raid targets, and guild policies IS the reward for being an officer. If that's not enough for an officer's inner powermonger, it's time to take up 6 boxing.
