I loved Napoleon Dynamite, I laughed so hard my sides ached.
Worst movie for me was Alexander....so much potential, such crappy editing. Could have toned down all the homosexuality in the movie too.

The biggest disappointment that i saw recently was Troy, wasn't a bad movie per se but was a huge let down to me. The best movie I've seen recently(wife and i had a baby in november so we don't see too much outside what we rent) was the last movie we saw at the theatres befoer the baby was born, Saw. Acting left alot to be desired, but the plot and cinematography ruled.

Was visiting some friends in February, and saw some movies that are old, but definitely make the best and worst categories.
Worst movie EVER: Hangmen (first movie with Sandra Bullock in a small role)
Absolutely impossible to follow the too-thin plotline, and the acting was incredibly bad.
A new addition to my BEST: The January Man, with Kevin Kline, Harvey Keitel, Rod Steiger, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (sp), Susan Sarandon, and several other stars. Great story, with several inter-woven plotlines. A fantastic cast that keeps the movie moving along at a good pace, with the main characters getting fleshed out enough to be able to enjoy the way they all fit together. This is about the hunt for a serial killer, btw.
I recommend this movie highly.
Have seen nothing of the new movies other than Ray that I would recommend.

"Saw" was disturbingly good.
Really liked "Ray"
Disliked Alexander as well. Missed a lot of movies for I was too busy playing EQ but playing mad catch up these last couple months.

Napolean Dynamite seemed to be a movie that people either hated, or loved. I loved it.
I've haven't been able to go out to the movies much, so all the ones I've seen we're pretty good thankfully. I have seen a ton of previews for movies that look like crap though. Like Cursed, Hide and Seek, or Boogeyman.

All 3 were reviewed poorly; even Robert DeNiro and Dakota Fanning couldn't save Hide and Seek I guess. I did enjoy Cursed: I went in with low expectations and got a little better for my money's worth (okay, I had free passes, but still). The humor worked for me, even if the horror didn't. But it didn't really try to be a horror movie. Ring 2 is coming soon; hopefully it works.

The Forgotten was good all the way until "the big twist" was revealed. At that point my wife and I both sighed and half heartedly watched the rest of it. They could have gone 1000 ways to explain what was going on and they chose the worst possible one. All it would have taken was *a little* creativity to make the rest of the movie enjoyable.
The worst movie I have seen this year was "Torque" which I was "torque-ered" with at my sister's house. That one sucked ass.

I'm currently watching the worst movie of the year: Skeleton Man on Sci-Fi Channel. It gains points for having the hottest Special Forces babes in moviedom, but that's small comfort. I still have hope for next week's Mansquito though!

You think Skeleton Man is the worst? The entire fucking day on Sci Fi has been terrible, I dont think I could single any 1 movie out of this afternoon's lineup as being the worst, they're all pretty well tied as far as being terrible goes.

I was skeptical when i was forced to go see Constantine, but I am glad I went. Deffinate buy for me, Considering it is based on a comic, no one should complain that its just another Matrix considering it was created before matrix was even a thought in someones head. Given Keanu isnt the best actor, but it had overall a good cast, good concept, and very nice affects. Critics didnt do it justice.

I thought The Village was good, mainly because Phoenix is a god.
The only problem with Shyamalan's movies is that he's a master of making things that aren't there seem scary - but piss poor at making things that *are* there, seem scary. His aliens or spooks just tend to be so bloody unconvincing it almost ruins a movie. Sort of like Jeepers Creepers, brilliant movie, but tragically blunted by extremely gay looking monster guy.
Worst movie? I'll go with Alexander as well. All the Greeks were Irish, Farrel looked like the homo he should have been in that wig, large swaths of the story were left out (hello? Persepolis?) as to make the entire thing seem pointless and rather trivial when Alexander's life could eclipse almost any episode in our history, and Jolie is just a fucking twat. Big, stinking, twat-faced-twat.
Oh, and Anchorman is the best comedy since Zoolander. "When in Rome.." and "Brick, you killed a man. I mean, you really killed him. Was that a trident you threw at him?"

I have to agree with Fild. Napoleon Dynamite absolutely stunk. Rates down there with Dumb and Dumber. Its actually worse. The best part of the flick is the opening credits

Didn't see alot this year, (dissapointed with The Final Cut, that's all), but 2004 worst movie for me was "Taking lives"... Yeah I know another "serial killer/profiler" movie, when you know the bad guy at the beginning and your only hope is seeing at least one of Jolie's tits...

Constantine was quite good, better then I expected. Not the best, but quite good. Though from what I hear, it was barely based on the comic at all. They just took the whole idea of the heaven/hell and some of the character's backstory from it and put it in a dark action movie.
On friday I went and saw what is the first 'great' movie I've seen this year, Ong-Bak. It's not a great movie because of the story, acting, cinemtography, or anything like that. No, it's a great movie because of the quality of its ass-kicking (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/ong_bak.html/).
The only big martial arts movies lately have all focused on story. And while I certainly don't think that is a bad thing(<3 anything with zhang ziyi), sometimes you just want pure action. And this delivers that. I haven't seen someone deliver such asskickings like this Tony Jaa fellow in a very long time. The movie doesn't use wires or computer effects for the fights or stunts so all the fights seem mostly grounded in reality. Until you see the stuff the guy does, heh. I can't even count the number of times the entire audience had a huge "holy shit!" reaction to something he did. Be it a jackie chan style stunt, or when he takes out the first guy he fights in one kick.
It has more of the stunts near the beginning, and starts to focus more on the fights as it moves closer to the end. And it only gets better as it moves along. I freaked out when the Jeet Kun do guy came out in the fight club, heh heh. I'd give more examples, but I don't want to spoil any surprises. I'm very glad that they decided to import this one and give it at least some major distribution.
Oh, and such h8 for napoleon. I must give him some love.

Problably one of the best "fight" movie I watched. Who cares the story indeed, show us some serious ass beating! :D
And yeah the 1st one-knee-in-the-face fight brought an "oooooooooooooooooooh" in the theater. :)

Ong Bak isn't playing in the theaters around here (yet), but I did manage to see some of it when my friend came to visit from Australia a couple months ago. He had a copy of it that was dubbed in italian with no subtitles, but it was pretty obvious you didn't really need to hear the dialogue anyway. Definitely a kickass movie.
The worst movie that I've seen this year is probably either Ladder 49 (although they played a pogues song in one scene, which I thought was pretty cool!) or the Terminal. Ladder 49 just struck me as being brutally cliche and the most entertaining thing about the Terminal, imo, was trying to spot all the sponsors. And here I was thinking Spielberg might actually start making some decent movies after seeing Catch Me if You Can.
I agree that Constantine was pretty decent, a lot better than I thought it would be. It helps to go into movies with low expectations I guess.

Hopefully his War of the Worlds remake is up to snuff. I'm not big on Tom Cruise, but Spielberg is generally better when dealing with sci-fi themes.

Ladder 49 was embarrassing.
It portrayed Firemen as retarded alcoholics.
"Lets climb this 12 story building on fire and poke the roof"
"Lets go into a hazardus factory and see what overloaded steam valves do"
Yea Bob died, lets get back on the ladder and do more stupid shit in his name !

Have a fireman buddy who lambasts Ladder 49 as loudly as I rail against the Iron Eagle movies.
Says it's a joke and no fireman worth his salt would do half the stupid shit these actors are scripted to perform.
So I avoided it...
