Now.. I think Ive about had it with this motherfucking administration.
An unreleased tune by Detroit rapper Eminem called ``We as Americans'' was the subject of a top-of-the-page report on the rabble-rousing conservative web site www.drudgereport.com on Friday. Why all the fuss? The song contains the lyric ``I don't rap for dead presidents. I'd rather see the president dead.'' While ``dead presidents'' is commonly used slang for money, the exact intent of the politically tinged song -- which includes references to cruising Gratiot, Osama Bin Laden and Eminem's troubles with the law -- isn't clear. Just another bad rap joke or something more serious? Listen for yourself at www.hiphophavoc.com.

John Gill, U.S. Secret Service spokesman, said: ``We are aware of the lyrics, and we are in the process of determining what action, if any, should be taken.'' Making a threat against the president is a federal crime, and the Secret Service is known for seriously investigating such incidents.

Maybe Im making too big a deal about it..
but.
WHAT THE FUCK.
Im not some Eminem superfan, so liking his music or not has not one damn thing to do with it, but..
Why the fuck did the spokesman have to word the statement like that? It seems to be some attempt at intimdation...
Cant they just have said "We at the Secret Service have an important job to do, we really cant waste time listening to Pop Music"

It just seems like the latest attempt for the Right Wing of American Politics to insulate the Bush Adminstration against Criticsm.
Like this Ann Coulture book "Traitors" which she tries to label liberals as traitors.. Is this the asinine path onto which this adminstration treads? The Drudge Report rails against this lyric, Rush Limbaugh slams Eminem.

To me, this is semi wake up call. I, for one, am going to be watching this adminstration and its attempts to quell dissention with MUCH more intensity.
If they are in fact trying to silence voices of dissent, Im not much for protesting or marching, but Ill be out there screaming as loud as anyone.

You have some possibly valid points.

However, in my opinion, someone simply needs to beat the crap out of Eminem on general principle.

There's a lot of rap out there that's in extremely poor taste. This takes it too far.

Of course, he's already thought of that. Go after him, and it's free publicity.

I also like how you've fallen for the usual liberal line of somehow associating Ann Coulter's idiotic book with the current administration. 'Cause, you know, Ann Coulter is a Republican senator, right? OK, she's a Republican House member, right? OK, well then, she's on some political party's payroll, right?

Oh, wait. HEh. That's Al Franken.

"We are aware of the lyrics, and we are in the process of determining what action, if any, should be taken.", from where I'm standing sounds like a typical PR guy stating a position for an agency, but I doubt highly that it would go much farther than that. Keep in mind, they didn't come out yelling this and calling emergency press conferences, the media asked them their take on it.

Like this Ann Coulture book "Traitors" which she tries to label liberals as traitors

I think you're looking for "Treason", not "Traitors". I take it you haven't read it. (I haven't got to that one yet, but now you know what to get me for Christmas.)

The Drudge Report rails against this lyric, Rush Limbaugh slams Eminem.

This suprises you? Consider the source. Drudge, although supposedly not favoring any particular political party, certainly does seem to lean more to the right, and Limbaugh? I don't need to explain that one.

Keeping an eye on ANY administration (Waco, Ruby Ridge, Tuskeegee Experiments, etc. etc.) is a good idea, but I don't think this particular situation warrants breaking out the powder and long-guns.

"Making a threat against the president is a federal crime, and the Secret Service is known for seriously investigating such incidents."

/shrug

We all know he wanted the investigation for publicity purposes anyway. Be funny if the dickhead got thrown in jail over it.

L2, if you get the chance, check out the book "The War on Our Freedoms: Civil Liberties in an Age of Terrorism". Just picked it up when visiting Santa Clara today, and while I haven't read far into it, it is a pretty fascinating read. There is no single author, as its a number of essays by different law professors and political figures, each with a different take on the issue of civil liberties.

Just figured I'd throw that out if you're interested.

I don't rap for dead presidents. I'd rather see the president dead

Well that`s pretty much just saying he hates Bush,it`s a very basic play on words that rhymes /shrug nothing to get their panties in a twist over i`d think.

As for saying they have more important things to do: ...i....totally.....agree..with.....you /shiver Paradox's suck

They should`ve just said "we have far more pressing issues and security concerns than some attention seeking rapper trying to stir up trouble and get some publicity at the same time."
Well not those exact words, more what you said...but nvm

To me, this is semi wake up call. I, for one, am going to be watching this adminstration and its attempts to quell dissention with MUCH more intensity.

...../faint

Dude, you just made me think twice about my stereotypes of you and your other pro-bush buddies.
Unless you were being ironic...not that anyone gives a shit about online-opinions,but it`s a free msg board so you got them anyway.

I think Eminem's great. I love his lyrics and i love his attitude. He's an entertainer and a musician ( to some extent ). He didn't say I WANT TO KILL GEORGE BUSH! It's meant to be inflamatory and to get a rise out of people and shock them. It worked. It's funny. It's entertaining.

You wonder why i call the republicans fascists?

I missed this the first go around.

The Secret Service is not the President's personal gestapo, they look into everything that could remotely be viewed as a threat, tens of thousands of them every year. It's part of their job, and has been for over a century now.

Think back just a short while ago to this incident for example:

Oh, and yes KMA, eminem's attitude is great.

We should all lie about our pasts to project fake images and disrespect/slander our parents.

eminem's mother, if any mother deserves the harsh words, does.

have you ever seen her crack whore ass in an interview, it was hilarious watching her lie out her ass on Barbara Walters.

see the above replies. nuff said.

i like to listen to eminem's music. i like to listen to luke skywalker and eazy e and ice tea's body count and NWA and a whole bunch of other shit that prolly upsets you, cristo, but ya know what? i don't give a fuck :) it's about music and how it makes you feel not who does what because they thought they heard ozzy tell em to kill themselves. you can't save stupid people from themselves no matter what you think. censorship in any form ( read that as intimidation in this instance ) should be identified as such and dealt with as such.

My answer machine message is or was until recently the part of 'Criminal' where he robs the cashier then shoots her for being too slow... :lol man people just stfu for about 20 seconds trying to remember what they were trying to say...

Truely hilarious messages were recorded from salespeople after the answer machine beeped.

A couple quick notes. The Secret Service sound-byte is pretty much stock no-confirmation no-denial stuff. That's probably their answer for EVERY sort of half-assed thing that comes their way.

*sigh* Bob, take agent Johnson and "thoroughly investigate" this Eminem issue, will you.

Also, for what it's worth, NWA's "Express Yourself" is my favorite track on Tony Hawk 4. They did a great job (as usual) with the music selection for it, and it's nice for when I only have an hour or so to screw around on the computer.

It was most likely the whole "facts supporting her side of the story" thing. That's usually how people win in court.

woops. he = bush in my previous post.

yeah crist0 it had to be that. we both know nobody ever wins a court case on circumstantial evidence and there aren't any innocent people in prison because of it. such a naive dorf.
