The death of the fantasy nation of your mind that never really existed.

Embrace the fact that this isnt the end of the world. Prepare yourself for the fact that Obama is probably going to be a pretty damn good President. Every single time in this nations history that the times were dire and the need was great we have been blessed with a President that rose to the occasion and delivered what was needed.
Im sure you would have been crying in 1932 when FDR was elected, or have been ready to fight when Lincoln was elected, or called it the end of the world when Kennedy (A CATHOLIC FOR GODSAKE< A FUCKING PAPIST!) was elected.

The era of America is not over. In fact, with the election of this President and the break with the past that he represents a new era is dawning.

Im filled with hope, and Im filled with optimism and gladly toss away my cynicism and admire the greatness of America and courage and boldness of the people in our country.

You can sit in your dark corner and sulk, the rest of us are moving forward.

My only hope is for Bush to declair some kinda matial law and declare himself dictator. I shall not sulk though. There are many of us who will try and weaken Obama any way we can. We will take power where we can from your kind of people. Subverting power from the democratic base will be a fun endeavor. Although I fear this year all is all but lost have no fear a 4 year term of Obama is alllll that it will take to usher in a long reign of conservative rule as Jimmy peanut boy Carter did in his failed administration. Sleep well at night thinking about that one there L2 and the sissy boy.

is there some irony to a Bush supporter saying he wants to usurp power from the office?

if Bush took 5 (to give his actions a numerical value) from the people, and the people take 5 back its an even wash. So i support you OSi!!

After reading Osg's dumb bullshit, I sent in ten bucks.

Thanks to you and yours Osg, for doing more than any ad or speech could ever hope to accomplish. If I ever find myself becoming complacent, I come read the dumb shit you write, or watch some youtube video of people calling Obama a Muslim terrorist, and my resolved is instantly renewed.

Fortunately, Republican strategists are too stupid and prideful to acknowledge that their 'us v. them' War of the Worlds mentality isn't attracting new voters, and is driving away independents like mad.

McCain ramps up the attacks, Obama gets more money.

Causation? Aside from some Freakonomics nonsense, I'd have to think so. Good thing most Republicans don't even know what that word means.

The thing you continue to miss here Osi is that many of us who are voting against McCain are Independent Conservatives who are 1) not willing to go through another Bush presidency by McCain who has spent his campaign imitating John Kerry and his famous flip-flops, and 2) not willing to support the slap in the face McCain gave us via his selection of Sarah Palin, who would truly destroy the country should McCain suffer some tragedy in office.

'The era of America is not over. In fact, with the election of this President and the break with the past that he represents a new era is dawning. '

- Unfortunately, great men can do little in the long-term against the sweeping themes and threads of time. Churchill could save Britain in war, but could not reverse the decline of the post-war period. Napoleon could dominate Europe, but in the end he could not conquer a continent.

I hope you guys heard Powell today... his reasoning was great. He also addressed the "is a muslim" thing and explained how much it bothered him that people aren't looking at it as "So what if he was a muslim".

He told a great story of a photo essay he saw in a magazine which had a picture of a mother in a cemetery with her head on her sons headstone. Her son had died in Iraq, and was 20 years old. On the top of the headstone was a Crescent star. The symbol of Islam. He was a Muslim American soldier who gave his life.

It seems Mr. Powell is disgusted with his own party for the direction they are taking us in every single way.

I heard Powell today, it was a great testament to clear thinking.

Jedd, you get too excited and angered about Osg, you need to understand him. Back in the '90s when Clinton was president along with a republican majority congress Osg had his welfare cut and he's mad now.

You must understand that he see's it that Clinton forced him to work and now instead of a trailer that is subsidized by the govt he now has to work and pay his rent. If this happened to you I think you would be pissed at Clinton and the possibility of another democrat as president also.

As I posted earlier in either this thread or another Osg is bi-racial, mexican mother and african american father, he has felt the pain of racism first hand and he is just venting here. So let him go and try and understand where he is at.

Well, if that's true it's news to your candidate, who has described him as an decent man:

"decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."

You came late. People were complaining about not enough moderation allowing threads to go to shit.

I fixed that, and the people who take threads to shit started whining.

The thing 'the guys' asked for was for you to move from one extreme (gutting threads for tiny infractions) to the middle, simply lightening up a little and using common sense. Instead you chose the 3rd option, going to the other extreme. A hatchet was used instead of a scalpel.

The guys didn't get what they asked for, so stop mocking and blaming others for your decision.

What you (and most) fail to understand is that people range from wanting Jedd banned (they PM me) and to wanting Osg banned (they PM me too). It's convenient to think there's a board-wide consensus about how to moderate "right", but it doesn't exist.

There is no possible, objective way to make everyone happy at any given time.

So, you either get my subjective moderation or not. I'm certainly not going to spend my time running fool's errands based on your daily whims, or anyone else's.

It's pointless for me to get in the middle of the polarization going on these days. I might start moderating again after the election passes, and the talking heads on TV stop telling everyone to hate each other so much.

First Colin Powell, Now…

Ken Adelman is a lifelong conservative Republican. Campaigned for Goldwater, was hired by Rumsfeld at the Office of Economic Opportunity under Nixon, was assistant to Defense Secretary Rumsfeld under Ford, served as Reagan’s director of arms control, and joined the Defense Policy Board for Rumsfeld’s second go-round at the Pentagon, in 2001. Adelman’s friendship with Rumsfeld, Cheney, and their wives goes back to the sixties, and he introduced Cheney to Paul Wolfowitz at a Washington brunch the day Reagan was sworn in.

In recent years, Adelman and his friends Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz fell out over his criticisms of the botching of the Iraq War. Still, he remains a bona-fide hawk (“not really a neo-con but a con-con”) who has never supported a Democrat for President in his life. Two weeks from now that’s going to change: Ken Adelman intends to vote for Barack Obama. He can hardly believe it himself.

Adelman and I exchanged e-mails today about his decision. He asked rhetorically,

Why so, since my views align a lot more with McCain’s than with Obama’s? And since I truly dread the notion of a Democratic president, Democratic House, and hugely Democratic Senate?

Primarily for two reasons, those of temperament and of judgment.

When the economic crisis broke, I found John McCain bouncing all over the place. In those first few crisis days, he was impetuous, inconsistent, and imprudent; ending up just plain weird. Having worked with Ronald Reagan for seven years, and been with him in his critical three summits with Gorbachev, I’ve concluded that that’s no way a president can act under pressure.

Second is judgment. The most important decision John McCain made in his long campaign was deciding on a running mate.

That decision showed appalling lack of judgment. Not only is Sarah Palin not close to being acceptable in high office—I would not have hired her for even a mid-level post in the arms-control agency. But that selection contradicted McCain’s main two, and best two, themes for his campaign—Country First, and experience counts. Neither can he credibly claim, post-Palin pick.

I sure hope Obama is more open, centrist, sensible—dare I say, Clintonesque—than his liberal record indicates, than his cooperation with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid portends. If not, I will be even more startled by my vote than I am now.

Osg, you are just having a real good time with this.

The more you keep it up, the more people will be driven to vote for Obama. Not because they want to vote for what Obama represents but to squash what YOU represent. Heck, John McCain would probabaly tell you to do him no favors.
You are conservative? Heck no.

You are just a clueless ass. Do you even know what being a conservative is about? Probably not. Bush and his crew certainly did not. What was conserved?

Our economy? Our budget surplus? Our credibility as the leader of the free world? Our confidence in the future? The conservative values of financial resposibility, adaptibility and tolerance certainly arn't at the core of what you think conservative is apparently. And yet racisim is? I don't like organised religion much, but even I know better to be that shallow as to peg the world's problems on the color of someone's skin.

Nope. We are broke, scared, uncertain, and mired in an irresponsilbily waged war. If we want to conserve the same stupid shit we can just keep on truck'n with the current Republican offering.

Nice post Lummus, but there is no reasoning with Os. He is the lowest common denominator and what is truly wrong with this country right now. What's really pathetic is the very things he represents are so truly un-american and he thinks he's a patriot. They use patriotism and religion to hide their amoral behavior.

I have Republican friends, they aren't all like Os. They belive in fiscal conservatism and fostering capitolism, I can talk to them civily and agree to disagree about some things. It's Os's type that's posioning American Politics and it sickens me.

What's frightening is that the GOP supports and even fosters this hateful, racist, fear mongering tack (see any Palin stump speech). McCain has done a little to discourage it, and for that I think these some good left in him, but at this point, he's powerless in his own campaign (as he would be as President).

Didn't find that funny either...just provides visual evidence there are idiots on both sides of the fence.

I'll go out on a limb:rolleyes: and say that is a bit counter productive and well...plainly retarded to do. Score 1 for negating an argument.

It is the likes of Henry Hyde, Newt Gingrich, Tom Delay, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Michelle Bachman, and the talking heads like Hannity and Limbaugh that have poisoned the Republican Party and driven so many like myself to the Independent Party.

And now, McCain in his terrible display of judgement has selected Sarah Palin who seems to revel in both divisiveness and ignorance, as she demonstrated with her incorrect answer to a child about the job of the Vice President and how she would be able to change policies of the Senate, as it's leader.

Her answer wasn't to a child it was in an interview by an NBC affiliate that's even sadder, the video below.

I know you don't like Bill Mahr but he compared Palin and that Minn. congresswoman to Beevis and Butthead.

in case you were interested it's translated into text:

PALIN: Aw, that’s something that Piper would ask me, as a second grader, also. That's a great question, Brandon, and a Vice President has a really great job, because no only are they there to support the President agenda, they're like a team member, the team mate to that President. But also, they're in charge of the United States Senate, so if they want to they can really get in there with the Senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom. And it's a great job and I look forward to having that job.

I mistook the narrative on the news then.

Also, I saw Mahr making that comment, and laughed out loud.

Bachman is doing a serious retreat from her comments, and trying to spin it that it was the media's "misreading" of her statement, even though it was on live TV, that is causing the uproar. She had the audacity to say she did not bring up the term anti-American, even though it is on video, and in another letter to the paper written by her she says this is the kind of media spin that makes people cynical about politics. Frankly, she disgusts me and makes me want to puke.
