The know your rights argument is increasingly hard with the extent of new laws and judges imposing their own oppinions on the laws.

Kanyli

Which is what makes it more important for the average person to actually find out what their rights are.

More like ... its impossible anymore for the average person to find out what their rights are. They seem to change every day.

Keeping it simple is key. No, I don't consent to a search. Are you detaining me? Am I free to go? Nothing more, if you can help it.

Way back in the day, a friend of I and a friend of mine were in search of weed. The guy who we used to buy from also worked in a convenience store, so we stopped in and he gave us a small sample, about a joints worth, to try so we would meet him after work for the O-Z.

So we get the little bag and in the parking lot, now mind you it's around 9 pm or so, my friend says "let me see what he gave you" so I hand him the weed and I get out a paper and my friend holds the weed up tolook at it.

Little did we realize that in the parking lot of the gas station next door there was a cop who just happened to be watching us. So I open the glove box and proceed to roll a joint while my friend drives out of the parking lot. Just as we pullout he says "holy shit, we're getting pulled over"

So I eat the paper and shove the little bag of weed under my foot inside my shoe.

Now, we pull over about 200 feet from the convenience store and there are now three cop cars surrounding us.

One cop goes to his side of the car and another goes to my side and they tell us to get out. They also ask my friend for his license, registration and insurance card. He gives that to the cop, who doesn't even look at it because he is so confident he has a bust, and the cop shoves the paperwork into his own pocket.

The cops tell us to place our hands on the car and they pat us down, ask us to empty our pockets and of course in my pocket is a packof EZ Widers. The cop asks me why I have those, I tell him that sometimes I rollmy own cigarettes of which I'm sure he didn't believe and they then proceed to completely search the car, remove seats, floor mats etc.. and after a good hour, they find nothing. They repeatedly asked us what we were looking at in the car of which we both said it was the hostess cupcakes we bought. The whole time I was standing on the weed, how I stayed so cool I'll never know.

They finally decided tolet us go and after we were driving a few hundred yards my friend realized the cop still had his paperwork and we sped up and pulled the cop over and got his paperwork back.

True story, so I will attest, keep your mouth shut, but was in the days before the "war on drugs" and when only the FBI type guys had dogs.

I just found out yesterday evening that my sorry ass brother finally got busted for meth a few weeks ago. My mother helped him post bail and he then didn't go to court last week, so now they come by mom's house every day several times a day looking for him.

He stole my mom's car and some how managed to drive a motorcycle thru the backwindow and needed 30 stiches to fix his head. The stupid bastard needs to be locked up, he's no good free and he's ruined his daughter's life, my niece whom I cared for the past 3years until she started getting out of control herself. She's back in NC for 3.5 months and she's engaged, failed the 9th grade, and my mom put her on birth control (depo shot) so she wouldn't get pregnant she turned 16 on 7/10. Yeah this is fucked up shit, I firmly believe if he would have cared for her properly when she was in those young impressonable years she may not think acting like him is ok.

So either the cops where I am from are idiots or the criminals are smart. He's gotten out of more shit than anyone I know, I am hoping he's met the end of his luck this time though. He got stopped twice on the same day, the first time he had paraphanalia (sp), the second time he had meth. The second time he went to jail. The piece of shit, if my mom loses her land b/c he thinks he can not go to court I will find him and lead the cops to him myself.

All this behavior sound like some young guy? Sadly he's going to 41 next month, but he still acts like he's a teenager. My mom thought it best to not let the rest of know b/c she knows how we feel about him. It wasn't till he stole her car, wrecked, and demanded she pay him money that she felt she should call us for help. It's a really shitty situation on one hand I feel sorry for my mom and brother on the other hand she has enabled him to be the fuck up he is today by always getting him out of everything and taking care of his kid. She would rather wallow in a trash pit that HUD helps her pay for and still work at age 73 than live with me or my other siblings. We tried that once, she lasted 4 months here till she was ready to move back.

I am sorry to absolutely vent and take this off subject but I am pissed and for once I am happy the law found a way to catch a criminal. Everyone knows he helps sell drugs in our county but they've never been able to catch him with anything.

My mom has never believed he did drugs or was messed up in anything just that he has had "bad luck". Like quitting his job every few months and sleeping on her couch is bad luck, like not bathing for days at a time or disappearing for weeks with no word is bad luck. WTF over? All my brothers and sisters have told her about experiences with him, either finding him with drugs or catching him doing them. But no, we all lie. She can't think that this time though.

When I was in college he asked me to ride with him to get his "tools" from some job site in Anderson SC. I said ok, we went to some trailer in some hell hole of a neighborhood. He asked me to stay in the car but I was like why? My curiosity got the better of me and I walked into a trailer full of pot plants, I'm not talking 10 or 20 I'm talking the whole trailer except the bathroom and places to walk and lay on the floor. No furniture except some folding chairs. On the kitchen counter were blocks of crack and cocaine. I freaked; not like mild freak but like I'm calling the cops freak. Sadly, the fucker threatened to tell my mom about my secret of being a "lesbian" so I kept my mouth shut for all of 2 days. I decided it didn't matter so I told her what I saw, she didn't believe me b/c "your brother is a hard worker, don't say such things he's trying to do better for himself. He took that job and has actually been sending money back home to help raise his daughter." /boggle It didn't matter what I said she didn't believe me.

I kick myself often for not having done something about that at the time. Not like I had a cell phone , not like the trailer had a phone at all, and not like I knew where the fuck I was anyway. Still, his daughter was not even 5 years old maybe just maybe with him out of the picture things would have been better for her. Drugs are bad, some where, some how, it's ruining someone's life and even the life of a child who doesn't even know it yet.

This has me conflicted.

I can't stand the trash that rail against all cops and insist "THEY'RE ALL PIGS MAN." But...

I hate the jackass cops that make the large majority of good ones that work towards making life safer and better for the rest of us. But...

The 15 minutes of the video I watched was quite interesting and I'm planning on watching more of it. But...

That guy is a massive, massive douchebag. But...

If I needed a lawyer I certainly wouldn't be against him being mine.

Wait for the second video, which is the cop's perspective. You'll feel less conflicted after he discusses his mind-fucking tactics.

I feel conflicted at times as well, since I grew up around cops and have many cop-friends. That said, if you're looked at as a suspect you better do everything to protect yourself, and there are some good tips in the video that don't require being a dick to a cop.

I have an update to the train wreck that is my family back home.

On Monday my brother called my mom stating he was out of gas and that she needed to come to him. She does of course but tells my niece to stay home bc she would bring her father to see her. The lousey ass hadn't seen her in weeks bc he's on a binge. Time passes mom reruns no show on my brother. This upset my niece so she asked where he was, mom told her.

The next day while my mom is at work my niece calls the cops and reports where her father is. Remember he was bailed out once but didn't go to court. So the cops wanted him, his happy ass is enjoying the scenery from behind bars. My mom in her typical OMB poor him way started freaking and asking the rest of us for cash to bail him out. To which none ofus would do bc the required min. Was now 20% of 20k and none of us wish to lose 4k on him. So we are all evil and so is my niece I brainwashed her not like she did something bad mind you he was wanted by the police they were looking for him she did the honorable thing IMO.

My mom is delusional and thinks he was framed and shouldn't have been arrested in the first place. To me, she should be happy bc at least until middle of sept she will know where he is.

My other siblings and I hope that this little wake call gives him new perspective and if not I may srsly consider rescuing my niece again bc I'm afraid he's going to flip out on her. So yeah drugs are bad.

Thats F'd up Fil, i feel ya. back in the early 90's I lost alot of friends to Meth. crown jewel was when my best friend for years called me up to tell me he had sold my car for me(it wasnt for sale) and was on his way over to pick it up.
When arrived to get my car that he had sold(wich wasnt for sale) little did he know that i had called a mutual friend(drug dealer) and learned he'd spent the money from selling my car(wich wasnt for sale) on more dope. it got pretty ugly when i wouldnt give him the keys and he couldnt deliver the car he'd sold(wich wasnt for sale) and didnt have the money to payback either. yea Meth is very bad.

Wow this saga is getting worse by the hour. I am probably going to retrieve my neice and have her live with me again. My mom and aunts have been constantly berrating her and saying what she did was wrong and how could she do it. To top it off he called her from jail and said she's no longer his daughter (not like he ever was a father). She found paperwork with all the charges on it that my mom had been keeping from the rest of us. She has read everything off for my other siblings and my niece has calls into social services about foster care b/c she is afraid of her dad he threatened her on the phone.

Of course my mom denies everything and says my neice is crazy. I told my mom we know now what he was charged with and queried how she couldn't know considering the paperwork was in her bedroom. My brother (the druggie) has been giving my mom money so she was pissed when her cash cow got locked up. That's the truth of it and some how it's our fault (rest of my siblings) b/c we weren't sending her money instead of him. So, after Leah and I talk tonight and with my other brothers and sisters I may be going back for her. No kid should have to go thru this bullshit and I am completely writing my mom out of my life for this bullshit.

My brother was charged with 2 felony possessions of marajuana and meth with intent to distribute. He also had drug paraphanalia (sp) and driving with a revoke license and no proof of insurance. His court date isn't until some time in September.

As far as being addicted to cigarettes I can't remember the last time someone drove a dirtbike thru a back window of your mom's stolen car b/c your buddies dared you to and would give you more cigarettes. I dunno, I suppose if you're desperate enough you might.

Did you mean who?

Seriously tho', I empathize with Fil having, gone through some very similar stuff with my two sisters, neither of whom I allow near me anymore. My older sister was a travel agent for a short time, and when my mother sent my younger sister to visit with a round trip ticket, my older sister took the ticket when she arrived, cashed out the return ticket for money, and then bought a one way ticket back using the credit card numbers on the ticket order.

Siblings can be some really fucked up folks sometimes. And if they are using anything harder than marijuana, they can be really fucked up.

Get your niece out of there Fil; BUT, set limits on her, and if she starts acting out, don't try to be a rescuer, but let her go her own way. It will save a lot of headaches and heartaches down the road as she learns her lessons.

Byl, I had her for 3 years and came to a point where I could no longer handle it. She's her father's daughter, at some times anyway. She ran off last week and my mom had the cops and rescuse out looking for her. They found her in her PJs around 1:30am. They also found a note she had written to her "fiance" that her window was unlocked to come on in. I love her, but I gave her 3 years of my life, time, and money and tried like hell to give her what she needs emtionally. I think it's a bit too late and besides I talked to her several times yesterday she does not want to leave her "fiancee".

Her dad is a dumbass and not only does he have these current charges he also had a previous incident with a DUI that he never took care of. So he's fucked, what's worse is that my brother had given him $3k in April to take care of this DUI but apparently he decided to spent it on drugs.

It's been an interesting week, my mom is now denying everything and tells the rest of us she's glad my brother is in jail. It's a mess and the more I deal with it the more I realize I just don't want anything to do with it. Kasey made a choice in April, either straighten up and stay with me and Leah or go back to the shit hole in NC where you will be lucky to see $5 let alone her own room. She chose to go back b/c she didn't like having rules and she didn't like that I enforced said rules. I can't go thru that again, but I can't help but think some small part of her being with us is what made her turn her dad in. So I applaud her and I told her and my mom she deserves a medal.

I should seriously write a script or something, this bullshit is just too drama filled to not make a good Lifetime movie.

Meth is bad, not to many options with Meth. Death is the most commonlity with it. I can't believe people even want to try that stuff. Hope he pulls out of it, its so addictive, and competely melts your brain, litterally. This is coming from someone who in his late teens and early 20's should be dead himself, luckily I met my wife.

When you are finished with one of the phone calls from the family, make use of that nice deck and view you have to relax. A glass of wine, or some other form of beverage, and that view could sure do wonders for my stress at times. :D

it would seem that things in my small hometown are coming to a head the last two weeks. Today 2 people were murdered, one of whom I knew quite well in my younger days... He was an ex-boyfriend.

It appears that he was into this meth crap also. Supposedly a substantial amount of drugs were found. He was shot in the face along with his friend, a third victim was found in a ditch near his house. That guy was air lifted to Asheville.

Supposedly there is a Mexican drug cartel running things in quiet Swain County, NC. And I hear there have been execution style murders, folks gone missing, and kids OD'ing. All in a county of maybe 15k.

I just don't get this, I don't understand :( I talked to the sister of the state trooper who was gunned down 2 months ago. It is believed it was drug related also.

Hearing this about people I know is hard to believe this is the stuff of Hollywood, only it's real.

I don't even know what meth is, I probably couldn't ID it. I am glad.

In case anyone is interested, that is the link to Asheville's TV station.

And I am wondering if this thread should be split off as I have practically derailed it completely with the BS happening in my hometown, family, life the last 2 weeks. I apologize for that, I'm just pretty devastated :(

Scott was the guy I went to school with. We dated off and on for 3 years. He came out to his friends and family about 6 or 7yrs ago. He has been with Heath since.

What isn't reported or spoken of is that there is a huge crackdown taking place in this area and it is past due.

Other things I have heard about this are:

The 3rd victim was handy man Scott had hired to work on his fence. He was not involved in the shootout except that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The perp(s) saw him and shot him 3x b/c he was a witness to their crime. This is an older gentleman who is fighting for his life and still in critical condition. We are all hoping that he pulls through enough to help with details about who did this.

There were some murmurings that it was a hate crime, but later that changed to robbery over drugs and money.

Arrests have been made, at least 2 black men from Decatur Ga area and 2 women from the Marietta area. One suspect is behind bars charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder the other is still loose and there was some sort of hunt for him in the woods behind a wendys off I285 in Decatur last night.

Two local men came forward with these details and said they led these black guys to Scott's house. I would assume they will also be charged with something. Scott's funeral/viewing is today, closed casket b/c his face is blown off. :( A good bit of details are not yet out but it is rumored they may have been after a safe full of money Scott kept in his house. Also, the 3rd vic still in critical condition has not been ruled out as a person of interest.

Some interesting numbers that the media have dug up about my home town. Not counting the Cherokee reservation, it's the 4th murder since 1980 and the first ever multiple murder in the county's history. But, is the 3rd murder since 2006. That is an indication of the drug and crime influence going on there.

Yeah, I wish it weren't as interesting at it is.

Now there are rumors that 2 local people actually hired these two guys from Decatur to kill Scott and Heath. Heath was actually just stopping by to say goodbye as he was literally on his way home back to Virginia Beach that day. He had decided to move back home.

There were quite a few people at Scott's house when this went down including some county workers, volunteer fireman, EMS worker, and possibly a deputy. They all ran when the shooting started. It is not known if they knew it was going to happen or were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The 3rd victim the one who was originally thought to be someone there working on Scott's fence is actually now thought to have driven these 2 guys to Scott's house and he was shot trying to get away. It's crazy and sad, apparently my hometown is corrupt beyond belief and that probably explains why there are literally tons and tons of FBI and SBI and DEA in my home town. Several people have been taken in for "questioning", several.

I hope they clean house down there, this is disgusting.
