Yeah. You don't want an AMD though.

Yes, yes I do

Have had AMD's for years , the only processor that ever gave me serious issues was an intel.

I'm loyal, mad loyal!

Lil worried about the heat with this set up, but the case has alot of good reviews in regards to air flow .

You should read some reviews written in the last several years about how badly Intel has destroyed AMD. There's not even a comparison anymore.

I've been reading tons of them, the biggest complaint I have with AMD is the socket changing bullshit.

I have to build two of them lol, one for myself and one for my son.

Warhammer online comes!!

If you have any further input on my build lemme know.

Order a little tube of Arctic Silver thermal compound - put a drop between the processor and the heat sink.

You might want to browse Newegg's case fans - a little exhaust blower below the graphics card can make a big difference in heat, and they're cheap. Mine was about $8, very quiet, and dropped the temp significantly.

Hehe, I was an AMD enthusiast as well, infact both of my machines are AMD (a S939 X2 3800+ and an AM2 X2 5200+), but I have to admit, the Intel processors are literally head and shoulders above them as it stands right now. AMD has been struggling to claw back it's market share from Intel.

The Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quadro processors are a complete departure from the Pentium series and are way (WAY!) more efficient and powerful. It used to be that people went with AMD due to price, but even that isn't a factor anymore.

Do yourself a favor and get at least a Core 2 Duo. Quad cores are nice, but the difference isn't THAT much of a difference when it comes to games. They tend to shine for folks who do 3D and Video development, but even they've come down in price lately.

The case you've selected is one of the best and should serve you very well regardless with what you go with. :)

Sanchek just hates on AMD because they got so many of the Alpha engineers which made the Wimpy-tel chips so sadeuroface all through the nineties.

I'm a fan of ASUS boards myself. I love my Crosshair mobo.

I'd highly recommend a Sonata instead of your riced out wigga case, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129155 or similar. Surprisingly quiet and unobtrusive, unless you actually want it to double as a lava lamp.

I looked at that one Malse but the critics made comment on the air flow.

It keep your machine cool enough?

Malse
06-27-2008, 01:13 AM
Yes. Those critics don't know their ass from a cooling duct. You can set the fan speeds to low/med/high, I'm sure if you put a SLI light-water-reactor in the thing and force them to low it'll be bad, which is what some moron did.

Convention cooling isn't rocket science but no one posting on those critiques knows jack about shit.

Stop holding back Malse, tell us what you really think!

Thanks Malse, I'll look into that case. Especially if it saves me money that I can spend on upgrades elsewhere!

You have a power supply you'd suggest?

Malse

That particular case comes with a 450W one, SMPSUs are so widely varying in quality I would have difficulty recommending a specific other one, although the new 80PLUS certified ones use less power and are better engineered so I would expect them to be more reliable.

Fandros
06-27-2008, 04:12 PM
450W is kinda small nowdays tho right? Or is the rush to power up misleading?

Malse
06-27-2008, 06:16 PM
450W should be fine for a single drive and video card. Get the motherboard and/or processor manual and verify if they request a higher power rating, but you're probably good.

Try one of the online power calculators - with two DVD drives, three hard drives, one graphics card they all put me somewhere between 400-430W. Check a PSU for adapters, that can be the bigger issue, although almost all of them seem to come with PCI-e adapters now.

Be wary of the PSU in the case - I usually pull those out and toss them, often times they're junk no-name brands. This may have changed though since the last time I built a box. Just double check before you attach all of your expensive stuff to it.

Agreed. Once you release that factory-installed smoke, there's no going back.
