Ok, here is the situation. I want to change my home page in the internet options section of IE. Well when I click on it I get an error stating that only the Admin can change the homepage. Ok fair enough. The deal is that there is only one account on this machine. Mine. The administrators! What would cause this and more importantly how can I fix this? Thanks guys.

Go to Control Panel and click User Accounts (assuming you're in classic view). Then look at the one account that it displays and make sure it says "Computer Administrator" under your name.

Eek! Hmm, did you try editing the homepage through the internet options in control panel? It's pretty much the same place as through IE, but it may actually let you change it there. Also, you are using IE6. right?

Edit: Some programs like Tweak XP may let you change your homepage as well.

The option is greyed out in the control panel. Odd. Ill check out tweak XP. Yes IE 6

That actually sounds to me like adware. Personally I'd rather have a virus than adware :/ If it is, you're going to have to get programs like Spybot S&D 1.3 and/or Adaware. The last time I had adware I had to have Spybot S&D do a scan before startup to get rid of my problem.

I have both....=( Oh well its more of an annoyance then anything. Thanks though Cados.

You should run the Housecall Virus checker.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Go to the menu on the right, under "More Info" click "Scan Now".

Also if you have a weird homepage that got changed from spyware (the homepage could be a new search enginge, or an advertisement or something), do a search for the title of it under www.google.com (http://www.google.com/) and there is a good chance it will come up with cures/fixes from people who suffered the same problem.

That also sounds kinda like how some anti-adware programs will lock your homepage, so that the adware can't change it. Have you installed anything like that? Even a little registry change?

I'll try that Gek. NO i have made no registry changes. I haved used Spybot and Ad-ware for quit ahwile before this issue showed up. It's been like this for 6 months but I have just finally had enough of this wierd issue.

If you log on AIM and send me a message at Unifaller I can also hook you up with macafee antivirus or antispyware.

Could also try running apps such as HijackThis or CWSshreader to see if you have some malware on your machine, but it def sounds like you do. Might be worth making another account that has admin rights on the machine and see if you can make any changes to your settings through it. Sometimes profiles do get flakey.

First off thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction. My spybot was corrupted. I found the options to lock off the home page settings and there were UNCHECKED. I should have been able to change what ever I wanted. So I uninstalled it and cleaned some stuff up and re-downloaded it. The options work properly now.
