A friend of mine has this box w/ win98 se on it, and it has this weird problem. The box will actually dial up into the internet (or in the case of my apartment, it'll grab an ip via DHCP), but will not browse, ftp, telnet, anything. It responds to pings, as well as being able to ping.

I've reinstalled tcp/ip a few times, installed ie again, but this has me stumped I guess, but I haven't played with it for more then an hour.

Anyone ever have this issue, know of someone who has had this issue, and hopefully.. knows of a way to resolve it? I'd rather not blow the system away over something small just yet.

Any suggestions are welcome :/

i use windows xp but i saw this one thing where u turn features on and off for people using internet on my LAN, may be something similar for me i "view network connections" right click on connection(internet one), then click properties, then advanced and there is a list.

*this way may be easier for win 98 user**
or open internet explorer>tools>internet options> connections tab>click on connectoin then click settings > properties> advanced tab > settings > and there's the list

i dunno if this is what your looking or but try it.

All it took was a post. I guess "webcellerator" or whatever the hell it was, messed up something :/

Problem fixed, move on!

check and make sure it is getting a DNS server address from dhcp, or that there is a static dns server address in the connection properties. also check that there is a host name for dns as well.

Check and make sure you've installed a somewhat modern OS.
