I am having knee surgury soon and am looking for some sort of work at home that pays, perhaps data entry or something, anyone know of such a creature?

How's your medical transcription?

Seriously though, you're in a bit of a sticky wicket. Unless you're already in a position where you can start telecommuting -- something made a bit more popular by this week's gas problems -- you might be in real trouble.

I have the "luxury" of working from home if I want - depending on what I'm working on. Frankly though, I get more done here. [Well, not at the moment.]

Depends on what your skills are. The problem is, anything you can land a job doing totally remotely is probably outsourced already.

If you're looking for 'something to do that pays' and not a real income generator during your time off, there are sometimes assemble-at-home jobs, or stuffing mailers,... things like that.

You can usually find these jobs in the newspaper want ads...in the equivalent of the part-time manual labor section.

If someone could wheel you into a bank, you could do 10-key at night part time, and with the usual turn-over...leaving after a couple of months is par for the course.

IGE? j/k

I'm going to agree with the rest, it's probably outsourced already =\ Good luck with your surgery though.

I remember seeing proofreader work-at-home positions waaaaay back in the day. Probably much less prevelant with the technology available today.

So, I guess I'm no help.

I'm with Fil. . .IGE FTW!!!!1!!1!

IGE(i.e. mmo money selling) , well I realize was a joke, requires probably too much startup income. I have a RL friend who does it professionally(anyone in my old guild probably knows who), he invested about $17,000 or so in computer equipment, accounts, space, etc etc, before he was able to make sustainable income above what he was currently making($20/h equivalent).
Helping him set it up/just assist at times, I can safely say its most definetly not "Easy Money", he works his ass off constantly making sure bots are tweaked, running smoothly, managing any parts that can't be automated, managing the funds, dealing with customers and constant fraud, probably one of the most stressful work enviroments around for what you get out of it.
(Unless you find a sucessful dupe...in which case I recommend just offering it up to IGE, they'll pay between $50,000-$500,000 for a good dupe...You need alot of resources to get that kinda payout from it yourself).

(yes, I know it was a joke, just dispelling the illusion before anyone takes it to heart ;>)

That said, for most corporations Telecommuting is a "Privledge" to offer to senior employees as a benefit, not a productivity tool, so its rare to see a regular job offering telecommuting at entry level.
Hate to be negative, but your gonna have a hard time finding at home work that will net you even minimal wage, alot of such jobs pay by the letter..transript..whatever.

If its a longterm condition, I recommend taking up a "For Profit" hobby you might be good at, supplement your income with woodworking or something.

You could take up poker, and start using Winholdem to bot for you.
