I really tried to give Soccer a try and watch it. So many people are hyped up over it and stomp their feet up and down saying its the best damn sport and puts the real game "FOOTBALL" to shame.
Well soccer still sucks. I can't believe the bullshit I see go on and the wussies fall on the ground, get hauled off on a stretcher....the sidelines spray some magic spray on them..and wow they pop back up and run out onto the field. All the red cards, yellow cards, faking by the players...what a waste of time.
Euro's can have your soccer...its joke.

True it's very painful to watch it. Could be worse, though I don't see how.
They should make it interesting. Have rabid dogs out there chasing people, random spikes poping up in the field here and there, among other things. Kinda like Running Man meets MXC. Now that would be a show to watch.

Heck, if they would just cut the field in half so it doesn't take 3 weeks for the flippin ball to go from 1 side to the other.....

I think my biggest bitch about soccer is how they embrace a tie. A tie game is just a "good match!". I want a winner and a loser. If one team like Italy gets a lead, they quit playing to score as much as to keep the other team from scoring. Have an overtime, a shoot out, something.
and WTF asshat ranked the US inn the top 5 going into the cup? We were no where close to being top 5 in talent after seeing some of the other teams play.
That being said I am trying to get educated about it since my 11 year old daughter is hooked on soccer.

The ranking system is based on the geographical area that teams play against during the off years. From what I understand, it is most likely to change.
I agree on the rest. The referees are a joke, the blatant favortism is pathetic, the fake falls to get calls is about the lamest trick ever used in any sport (NBA and NFL included), and I can not stand the constant offside traps used by the defense . . . all . . . the . . . time.

They need to give one guy on each team a hockey stick or a nerf bat. And if he catches the guy with the ball all hell gets to break lose, no penalties or stopage of play for 3 min. That would make Soccer more interesting.

I just can't agree with you guys. I do wonder what it would sound like if the US hadn't been sent home so early? Football (I call "your" version American football. Even that's strange to me though, it's even played with hands primarily.) is the greatest game ever. This year's World Cup hasn't had that much good play though until the final stages. On top of that it will probably go down as the World Cup with the least goals ever. The only thing I do agree with is that there's too much "feign death" going on
I suppose it's all a matter of what you grow up with or something. To me American football is the most boring sport on the face of the planet, together with baseball of course.

The offsides rule in the World Cup is fairly restrictive, much more so than "normal" soccer, which is why it's a relatively low scoring game, and part of the impetus for hamming up any card-generating injury so you can get a penalty kick.
All that aside you do get some good games like Germany/Italy the other day, which had lots of goal-to-goal movement. One of my favorite parts about it is that there are few commercials.

Actually the new offside rule is less restrictive than before. Now it's ok to have a guy in an offside position as long as he doesn't receive the pass. This opens up for a lot of new situations, especially for freekicks and such.
Yeah, both semi-finals were great imo. As were some of the quarter finals. Personally I had actually thought that the final would be between Argentina and Brazil. I have no idea why the incredibly offensive squad of Argentina stopped playing their own game against Germany though. Brazil.. well.. disappointed bigtime. I can imagine they were very shocked by how well France played though. Now I hope France wins the final, given of course that I cheer for any time that's going up against Italy :p

I am not a soccer fan but it is much more entertaining than Golf or Baseball. I think the reason it appeals to me is a country vs country approach sounds great!
Can you imagine a football (American) where our team would get to play say Iran?
I know you guys would love that!
Edit: Oh and soccer players are in great aerobic shape.... it takes some sort of athletisism to play it imo.
