The writing is kinda hard to follow, but there's some hilarious parts that are worth reading it for.

Seems hard to believe it's not at least embellished a bit.

Yeah, that does seem a bit hard to believe as is. Still, its possible.

You would be surprised how quickly something like that can happen.
When I was a kid around 12-13 the neighbors in a house next to the one I grew up in, ran into some hard times. The family that lived there consisted of: the father (late 30's - early 40's), the wife (approx same age), and 6 kids ranging from 2 to 18.
Their water got shut off in early summer and the power got shut off in late summer early fall. They had cut a hole in the floor to piss and shit in. They had run a regular extension cord out to the electric pole and hooked up electricity to the house. The child beating is what finally led my Dad to call the police, in which they found the living conditions.
They too had covered the house with newspapers, I assume, to quell the stench. Rats actually teamed out of the house when the police entered. By September the health department had condemned the house and literally went in with bio-hazard suits on to clean the place up, just enough to clean out the rats and feces.
In the end the parents where jailed for child abuse, the kids where sent to live with various relatives and foster homes.
As an adult I see how sad that conditions were, but as a kid I saw it very differently. The kids that where my age where brutal bullies and I was very glad to see the bad things happen to them. It’s funny how perspectives change so dramatically as you get older.

It's not so much the mess the guy made - that I believe. It's more that the storyteller didn't have the brains to move out. Free rent ain't worth all that, and to put up with that kinda lunacy indicates that either he did embellish a lot, or he's not so different from his roomie. I think the moment you have dead cats and bags of poo in the lights, it's time to go. Don't ask questions, just go.
But dang, makes me feel a little better about some of the morons I had to share living quarters with.

He lost credibility for me with CS and Doom3 references. :(
But he got a good imagination, I was expecting the "mold and spore" monster rising from the poop bathtub!!

Jars of urine all over the place? Shit lasagna in the bathtub? The zerg hive I call home seems downright pleasant all of a sudden.
