When I checked with my son he told me the servers are all down for 6 hours. Ugh, was curious if I ranked up from Sergent!!

hehe me too i put some serious AV time in and got about 75k honor was hoping to get through all of sergent and into 1st sergent.

Bet 1.9 is going in. If so....this new Co-op quest for end game progression should be interesting

Was 75% through Sgt and racked up nearly 200 hk's for the week. Unsure at this moment where I stand honor wise.

It still down Grey?

Speaking of honor I really wish there was some sort of chart that showed the amount needed for each rank or heck even a list that actually showed the ranks!

This is by far one of the best aspects of the game for me. I got my gf to do a few with me last night and she loved it. Huzah!

I think a static chart would be difficult as the range changes due to others in your pvp cycle's rank changing.

Done with tradeskilling ( cooking, skinning and leatherworking all 300) so now I can alternate twixt battlegrounds and grinding exp.

Starting to notice a real equipment difference between me, a soloer, and the guilded folks. Muh weapons don't glow all purdy like theirs heh.

If i understand PVP Ranking system, each server is different as far as honor needed. Warsong (the srever i am on) is the #1 PvP server we have highest population, so
200 HK's is childs play on my server. I got 1500 HK's this weekend over the course of 4 8 hour long marathon AV's. (Only good thing is went from 0 faction to honor'ed this weekend)

The point is, making a chart for ranking would be nearly impossible.

Oh, only pvp'd about 5 hours total this weekend. Twas Xmas weekend after all.

Ideally I'd like to pick up 1k kills a week. Sadly there is only one alliance team that steps up to the plate and takes us baddies on regularly. With there being enough Horde folks willing to pvp, maybe enough for 3 to 4 teams, that means alot of waiting time in the que. Last night at one point I was in a que for over a hour.

When I checked with my son he told me the servers are all down for 6 hours.Fandros, you know that Blizz takes down the servers every tuesday morning from 3-5am until 11-12am EST for maintenance, right? It's a normal thing.

Also, as far as patch 1.9, they've posted on several occasions that they were trying to get the patch out before christmas, but were unable to, and stated that if they werent able to do so that the patch would go live shortly after the new year. I cant find the original post that detailed all this, but here (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=6416374&s=blizzard&tmp=1#blizzard) is a recent post saying that it will be after the new year.

We've never set a date for the next patch, so technically, it's never been delayed. Please keep in mind that patch version 1.9 is a rather large update, and extensive testing on the public test realms was absolutely necessary.

We hope to have the patch ready for deployment shortly after the new year.

I never have understood that weekly downtime. Keeping systems available 24/7 isn't trivial, but it's also not all that hard either.

Actually I work days and wasn't aware of the duration of the weekly patch. Thanks for the update Jen.

Son just called me at work, woot I'm a Senior Sgt now...guess I need Blood Guard before it really means anything eh?

Fandros, weapon glows = money, not guild stuff for one :) Just pay an enchanter to enchant your stuff. Enchants are pretty crucial at 60, especially depending on the class.

Hmmmm I'll ask around tonight and see if I can afford a rifle and sword enchant. Might be handy in dealing with this pita alliance rogue by the name of Bobber....pos

Thanks for the input Kelraz.

Actually I work days and wasn't aware of the duration of the weekly patch. Thanks for the update Jen. Sorry - reread my post and it seems to be more 'harsh' (for lack of a better word) than I intended it to be.

I was mostly surprised that someone who played WoW for any length of time wouldn't know about the weekly downtime. One look at the WoW forums on tuesday and you can find the weekly gripe from the aussies about how the maintenance time falls during their prime time. :)

I never have understood that weekly downtime. Keeping systems available 24/7 isn't trivial, but it's also not all that hard either.
Well, Blizz seems to have a hard time keeping servers up 22/6 for the most part. :) Most servers experience some downtime during the week (restarts, crashes), separate from the normal 6 hour tuesday downtime. Having to add queues to keep their servers even this stable... /boggle.

Anyway, the weekly downtime is a GREAT time for stealth nerfs. :)

Hmmmm I'll ask around tonight and see if I can afford a rifle and sword enchant. Just FYI, there arent any rifle/ranged slot enchants (last I checked anyway).

I think you said you played a hunter... a great enchant for your weapon(s) would be the +20 agility enchant (requires you farm for 2 essence of air in silithus for each enchant, has a subtle green glow, pretty cool). The nice thing about this one is if you dual wield, you can get the enchant on both weapons for +40 agility.

Also (if you didnt know) there's other great enchants you can get for most armor pieces, and can significantly increase you power - mount speed enchants, run speed, resists, more agility, armor, etc.

Sounds like I need to do a lil research. Haven't done any so far, been learning my class by experience and asking others online.

Thanks again Jen.

Here's the more detailed response from Tigole regarding patch 1.9:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-dungeons&t=278305&s=blizzard&tmp=1#blizzard

Also, for Fandros, check out this page, and peruse the enchants above skill, oh, 230 or so (start at the bottom at 300, and work your way upward). That should give you an idea of what enchants are available, and what materials you may need to get for them:
http://www.thottbot.com/?t=Enchanting

Oh, and I was wrong.. it was 15 agility for the enchant. :) Been a while.

Edit: Oh, and ask/search around about Libram's as well. They're basically enchants that dont require an enchanter, but merely a book that is dropped by mobs (and is tradeable - check the AH), and some are pretty decent.

I'll be on at some point tonight fanny. If you haven't gotten your stuff enchanted yet, talk to me and I'll find someone to enchant your shit.

Last night was fun...I was in two runs that both lasted over an hour each. It was total gridlock and all strategy. It was literally back and fourth and no one could score for awhile. Poor Horde we had two come from behind victories in a row :D I totalled nearly 200pts just from those two alone and I'm only level 17. God that was fun. Is it like this at all levels or does it start getting boring in later levels?

Seems pretty similiar to my exp Fil in the 40 -49 set.

Picked up over 200 hk's myself last night. Was a fun busy night...

Good so I can level and still have fun :D

I have thought about hanging around at 19 for a while, it's so much fun beating the twinked out horde shaman and rogues with their glowing weapons and all :p

What is the highest rank you can make before I have to level anyone know? I'm nearly through Sergeant.

The point is, making a chart for ranking would be nearly impossible.

The Honor system needs an overhaul. It's like they give you the Honorable Kills number just to hold you over until the system can go through the paces of figuring out how much honor you get for your efforts. Anyone know why they can't give you the honor instantly, as you gain it? I know that a Sergeant Major is worth more honor to kill than a Private, but anyone know the mystical formula? You'd think by this stage of the game someone would have a Mod or something for it.

fildien
12-28-2005, 09:37 AM
The thing about it is that even if it is a complicated thing there still HAS to be some logical formula for it. And at the very least Blizz could explain it, at least IMO anyway.

I do know that on Elune Horde side I had a ton of honor and was barely a grunt. On Kirin Tor on Alliance side I have a megatonbuttload of honor and I'm almost through Sgt and that is only after 2 weeks of casual play :D Casual = maybe 5hrs a week.

I'm surprised nobody has a mod for it out as well, but I imagine that it's due to the complexity of it all. There's a ton of factors that go into calculating honor, some that I probably don't know about, but it takes into account the person's level you kill, possibly their level in relation to you, how many times you got kills on them recently (honor depreciated as you camp people), how much damage you do, etc etc.

I think that if it's ever calculated on the fly, Blizzard is going to have to be the one to do it.

They have their estimated honor thing, but it's fairly useless. For instance, if someone even level is fighting an npc and they kill it (or are near killing it) and have maybe 10% health and the time, and you walk up and kill them alone; the estimated honor calculator will tell you what you would get for doing 10% of the damage to that person (some low number depending on your level), but in reality you get full honor for that.

there is mods , titan panel has one, that guestimates your honor, its pretty accurate to, but it cannot guestimate rank cause that is based on other peoples performance.

Its in the latest version of TP. 2.09 I think is the version number? Titan HonorPlus.

Sumamael
12-28-2005, 05:27 PM
I think this is the one I use:

http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=1606

(you need to download the Titan panel itself as well, Honor+ is a plug in, same site)

Not sure if there is a more recent version out there yet, I know that this one probably won't work with the upcoming 1.9th patch (didn't work on test).

There is one bug in its calculation that it does not account for the +398 honor you get for turning in tokens/runes/whatever that you get for winning BGs.

When I was doing my rank grind I usually added +10% on top of the indicated ammount and that was pretty close.

A tip for ya: Unless your side on your server totally dominates the other side and wins repeatedly in under 30 min(thats why you can't que as a group anymore), AV is horrible for honor. Thanks to the wonders of diminishing returns, i guarantee you that about 1200 of those kills were pretty much meaningless. Then add in the fact that you're usually in a raid, and the usual zerg, and it hurts your honor points even more.

And rank most certainly depends on your server, and how much pvp happened that week. On some servers during busy times, 200,000-300,000 honor a week can barely keep you in rank 10, where on other's it'll give ya 12-13. The details are all complicated, but it basically depends on how your points compare to the total points earned that week, and everyone indivdually.

I hate to do this, but I have to agree with Dante. :P The honor system is indeed broken. Though for different reasons. The main problem's are the diminishing returns, and that it actually forces you to compete with your own faction, not the enemy. Unless you're 99% sure you're going to win, it's much better to never group and simply frontload all your damage so that the kills you get do mean something before the DR kicks in. This leads to lots of dps classes just going solo, and dancing with the enemy if you're losing(serious here). It's even more messed up at the top ranks.

Another handy mod: Already Killed. It keeps track of honor like those other mods, and also shows how many times you've killed someone. So that you know you've already killed someone 4 times and they won't give you any honor. I dunno the link for it right now though..
