Oh. My. God. That was amazing.
I've played a lot of MMORPGs and RPGs and I have to say I've never quite had an experience like running the first instance in the Caverns of Time. Going back in time to a place of historical signifigance is a really novel concept to begin with, but it was even more novel to revisit not only one but really two or three world changing events (even just as a fly on the wall) and having an entire zone to explore all over again was great.
I am gonna run the Black Morass tomorrow, I can't wait.
**spoiler alert**
For those of you not planning on doing this, I.E. you don't play Warcraft, basically there is 5 types of dragons in the world that protect different aspects of the world. One type (bronze) looks after time itself and there's some evil dragons that are fucking with the timeline. So they send you back in time to the zone you probably spent a good portion of your level 25 to 35 career in to rescue an orc who would later become the leader of the Horde. As you go along you witness the orcs being held in internment camps and being freed, as well as a lot of the bosses from an instance you visited as a level 35 (Scarlet Monestary) as fledling humans or in some cases, even as teenagers simply walking around.
Seeing Herod as a teenager was funny, and bumping into Nat Pagle and watching that goblin build his bodyguard you probably repaired your gear on during the Tarren Mill PVP saga was great. Watching the creation of the Ashbringer and all of the various Scarlet Crusade bosses hanging out before they were corrupted very interesting. Also fun to see Kel'thuzad and all before he went evil.
Even the tiny details of Stormguard Cheddar or whatever, knowing later that town will go to shit and that the Syndicate would take over different areas and getting all of the history was really neat. I never read the book about Thrall's escape, but now I want to.
I know they planned on having a battleground in there, and there's always the possibility they'll add a 40 man instance, and the wide range of room they could go with this area is amazing. I've run most of the instances in Coilfang, Hellfire, etc and everything in the old world but nothing compared with how cool this outdoors instance was.
