So I did my first battlegrounds thing last night. Oh my that was fun. We won every time. But I see people with ranks like scout, sgt, master sgt, etc. What is that and how do I get one? Well more specifically how many honor points does it take to get ranks?

Lastly, I experienced my first login queue. Umm wow, that really sucks. I waited like 5min to log on to Elune last night. Is this common? Does it happen more readily at certain times of the day or night? I want to know when I can avoid it.

I bought a new NiC and so far so good. No problems but I haven't been back to the zone that flakes out when I do my quest turn in either.

In general I am really liking the game. It's fast paced but it doesn't seem as easy as it was last December when I first tried it. Of course I don't have tons of time to play anymore either so that could contribute to it.

First Question: PVP Ranks
The answer is surprisingly more complicated than you would think. The number of Honor Points you have determines your standing. Honor Points are calculated every Tuesday during down time. Its a complex formula calcualted from the # of people PVP'ing and the amount of damage/kills you did during your PVP sessions. The short answer is you find out Tuesday.

Second Question: Queues
If your playing on Elune I have noticed lots of Queue time during my normal play times, I used to play on Kargath and have never seen a Queue. However the Lag on Kargath is 100 times worse than Elune. The only way I know how to avoid it would be to log in before 4pm EST and after 11pm EST and never get disconnected.

Fild, yesterday was my first run on the battlegrounds as well. Wow, being a hunter with multishot sure racked up a group of kills!!! heh

Back to point, during que time I generally stone back to my exp ground and get to work. At one point yesterday I had a 16 min wait, during which time I finished two quests. It doesn't matter where you are when you reach the top of your que, you can zone in.

Beelz? What name are you going by again? And did you make it above 38 yet? ;P

One thing I noticed yesterday was the distinct need for a different pet when pvping and PvEing. My scorp is a great tank for other AI critters. But lacks usefuleness when fighting thinking toons.

Anyone have a suggestion?

What level are you now Fan? I'm knocking on 29 for extremely casual play and having a great time so far.

Almost level 38 atm. Oh, btw the runes you get from each battleground can be turned in for experience. I turned in 6 sets last night after my 13 year old clued me in. Got about 10k exp.

Dear Fildien:

Basically, PvP ranking in WoW is a pyramid scheme. You earn rank based on how many CPs (contribution points) you rack up per week compared to others of your faction on your server who are also in the PvP system (have made enough kills in a week at least once to earn rank 1), weighted by level; your rank also decays over time, although I have not dropped out out of the system yet despite not having engaged in a single PvP combat since July. Just think Mary Kay or Avon, only with pixilated slaughter taking the place of makeup sales - you have to outsell a lot of other gals to earn that pink Cadillac!

If you're on a server where a lot of people are making heavy use of the Battlegrounds, and you are on the less-populated side so that your queue times are effectively nil, this may mean PvPing 70 hours a week (literally) for several months to make Rank 14 (High Warlord, if you're Horde). That is the situation on Alleria, but on some PvE servers and on the more-populated side, the hour requirement is considerably less. At lower levels, your rank is also hard-capped; I think Senior Sergeant (possibly Stone Guard) is as high as you can go sub-50, at least that is what I had a heavy PvPer in the 40-49 bracket tell me the other day.

Ranking up in PvP provides access to a lot of nice goodies gear-wise that don't require large-scale raiding, and now that they can be equipped regardless of your rank, assuming that you earned the rank at least once, it's much more worthwhile to spend the time ranking for them. Hope that helps a bit...
