View Full Version : [WoW] Hunter nerf?

I can't quite get the jist of what "nerf" supposely plagued the hunter class ... just seems that all the b.net kiddies are posting about how hunters need to be buffed not nerfed or whatever.
Personally, I find hunters to be quite a solid class. PvE we are fairly unbeatable at the rate we can solo as well as duo / work with a full group. Instances we are kinda weak because of range and what not but personally I've never had problems with groups. PVP I'm a menace to just about every class and only have troubles consistantly with rogues (if they get the jump on me, their stuns and what not prevent me from getting out to a range where its safe to attack em and my melee dps sucks) or priests/warlocks (fear and all those dots, ugg!), but mages shaman druids warriors are all pretty easy to take care of.
So can anyone enlighten me?

Read the patch notes or one of the hunter boards. It's several issues introduced on test that may or may not get sorted out before the next patch. Right now, it looks pretty bad.
Unless you're talking about the 10-15% DPS drop in the last patch.

Some good posts in this (http://www.wowhunters.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=887&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) thread. Blizzard has admitted that the large drop in pet DPS was a mistake and they are investigating, and will take a look at the defense ability for other classes.
Patience here I think is the word of the day.

Hunters
A new Hunter epic quest series is now in the game and waiting to be found.
Scatter Shot (Talent) - Now usable while moving and no longer interrupts ranged combat. Now properly reduces the ranged attack power contribution by the percent modifier.
Highland Striders no longer have Cower (Rank 3) when tamed.
New Pet Ability: Dive - Increases movement speed for a short duration.
New Pet Ability: Dash - Increases movement speed for a short duration.
Freezing Trap - Visual changed.
Track Hidden - Increased stealth detection.
Scorpid Sting - Fixed a bug where it was not considered a poison. It can now be removed by poison curing effects.
Aspect of the Cheetah/Pack - These Aspects will now be canceled when mounted.
Viper Sting - This spell can no longer be used on warrior and rogue targets. In addition, while it can be used on a druid target at any time it will only drain mana when the druid is in caster form.
I don't see anything that is really bad here at all. The viper sting change is annoying, but nothing horrible. A pet dps drop was obviously a bug and they said they were gonna fix that, again still missing what all the chicken little talk is all about.

The "chicken little" talk revolves around a "bug fix" that Blizzard put into the patch on Test. Previously, you couldn't parry or dodge ranged attacks. Now, on Test, you can. It has a huge impact in PvP, apparently, and it also appears to bleed over into PvE as well.
Oh, and apparently Dive and Dash trigger the pet speed bugs...in that if you use them, your pet gets stuck as a slow speed.

They always list the bad stuff in other places. Range damage will check against defense skill now, not level. Right now on test, a 300 skill hunter's miss rate is as low as 60% against a high defense target. They said they're going to evaluate +defense gear now, but I highly doubt the patch will hit without us seeing a DPS loss (again).
The ammo container thing was pretty rough, but partially disguised by them adding ammo DPS to the displayed ranged DPS number on the character sheet. Most hunters seemed to be totally fooled by the combination of that and the way they worded the patch notes. You lost 13-14% haste even if you weren't exploiting in any way. Or, roughly the same DPS as level 40 ammo.

I was under the impression that the big hunter nerf was that items giving "+X to attack power" no longer effect ranged attacks, and only the items stating "+X to attack power with ranged weapons" will. I'm not sure that it's mentioned anywhere in that behemoth of a patch message, but it wouldn't neccesarily be grouped in with other hunter changes because ranged physical damage is not specific to hunters.
I don't know for sure if that's true or not, but a friend of mine (whom I respect with regards to discerning bullshit from truth) mentioned it to me yesterday.

Haha. As an aside, check out the warlock forums: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.aspx?fn=wow-warlock
It should explain why the class I'm playing never gets any of their shit fixed. =p

Better find a new friend, then ;)
Items with +attack will still continue to affect ranged attack, but spells that give +attack (outside of Aspect of the Hawk) will not. At least, that's what was posted on the Blizzard boards by "Blue" (of course, they haven't had much luck at getting their story straight on anything related to the hunters.....)

That bow is disgusting.
Ranged attacks checking against defense rather then level makes complete sense... but they should make sure it doesn't gimp their damage.
Heres a good example of the pet thing that they were getting upset about:
Current KingB(a popular pet I guess?) (http://www.starbabie.com/images/KBnormal1.jpg)
KingB on test (http://www.starbabie.com/images/KBtest1.jpg)

See, the thing about that bow is: I could get it today and still be at a lower damage output than before the last patch. That's how much the haste change affected hunters.
Word from test still says that the defense changes make the haste change look like a walk in the park too (pvp and pve). They say they're looking at it, but that doesn't give me overwhelming confidence given the past hunter changes.

I honestly dont care what makes sense or not. I don't want them to screw up even more stuff just to make things make sense.
Hunter DPS (is) fine right now. Defense is fine right now.
If they have to they can just undo the change and leave hunters the hell alone. Nobody asked for hunters to get nerfed in the first place. They dont need to make ranged attacks check defense.. then nerf Defense to bring the ranged DPS back in line.
My defense is just PERFECT on live servers. I DONT WANT MY DEFENSE NERFED JUST SO THAT THINGS CAN MAKE SENSE. LEAVE HUNTERS ALONE DAMMIT.
That response by the Blizzard CM scares the hell out of me.. telling me that +Defense is too powerful. All I have left as a warrior is my tanking ability. Warrior class definition was severely watered down, along with the DPS, in that horrible patch near the end of beta. I do NOT want to see a key tool of my last remaining asset shot in the face just to fix some "bug" that currently has no impact on the game whatsoever.
Blizzard's stance on warriors has been silence and an almost complete lack of action. My guess is, for sake of "making sense" they are gonna connect ranged DPS and Defense, nerf Defense, then ignore the warriors who get caught in the massive collateral damage.

It gives me great pleasure to play the single most unfinished class of the game (including Warlocks), and then see them shoving their foot up my ass to boot (get it? boot? pun!).
After levling a hunter to 60, I now thoroughly enjoy playing a class with such simple things as fun and useful talents and class quests after level 10. Looks like my warrior is what I'll stick with for a while except on raids.
