View Full Version : [WoW] I'm having an odd problem when turning in quests

When I do a quest turn in my PC totally locks up for like 2 seconds and then it goes back to normal for about 5 seconds and freezes again...it does this until I reboot. It doesn't matter if I quit the game, the problem still exists, I have to reboot to get it back to normal. It only happens when I turn a quest in and it seems to only happen when I turn in a quest in a heavily populated zone or when there's a ton of people around.
It's quite bizarre and it never did this back in Febuary when I played. Now when I was patching I did get a message about my network card needing new drivers or something to that effect. But I didn't pay it any mind since everything worked okay at first.
Yesterday I went out to Netgear's site and discovered that my card doesn't have XP drivers....ok that could be a problem but it's still kind of odd. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before or has any suggestions other than a new network card (I'm a cheap and lazy bastard)......seeing as how this is the only game I have ever had a problem with like this.

I bet we have the same network card. I can't even recall how I fixed it but mine is fixed now but had the same problem. Specific zones such as Booty Bay would freeze me every time I turned in a quest. Actually, I hope I fixed it ... not just out-leveled quest turn-ins. This problem started after patch 1.3 I believe. Have you not played in a long while, like 8 months?
Anyway, here's what Blizzard recommends you do: http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01679p

Mine was doing the exact same thing, but I had a different card than you evidently. I wound up having to update the nic drivers, as well as updating the firmware on my router.
Seems like a silly thing, but it fixed the problem.

my speed was set to auto, I did what this said and set it to 100/full and so far so good. If it flares up again I will just buy a new card. Thanks for the link Kel.

/sigh I still have the problem but only in Tarren Mill. Guess I need a new card after all.

I have the same problem in Tarren Mill, at night when the server is under heavy load, I lag out for 5-10 minutes afterwards, but only in that zone

OK wtf...?
I put a new NiC in and when I run the patcher the Blizz downloader still tells me I have a NETGEAR card and that it detects a problem with it. And so my download freaking crawls. GEEEEEEEEZ I never had issues like this in EQ2 :(
