So, in last month's free-to-Palimax Maxim, they included a WoW trial. Anything I should know about it?

Yes, that you should roll up an Orc (or undead, for nice lore in the starting areas) warlock on Horde/Alleria :P. They're the sexiest thing going in a dress (well on the male side, anyway), and you'll get your very own trixie to play with eventually (and I don't have one in guild who actually plays ;) )...
On a more general note, the free trial doesn't allow you to do a few things, like use the mail or Auction House, but otherwise it plays exactly the same as the full version of the game. Stop by and say hello at least, whether you decide to stay or not or wherever you end up!
Warm regards,

Warlocks are so much nicer in WoW than their EQ counterparts. They are a combination Mage / Necromancer but have a lot more versatility in their pet selection. I'd check them out, I love mine.
Honestly, every class is really well done in WoW.

Don't go Alliance.
That's about it.

The game's great, the scenery is absolutely beautiful if you're used to Everquest. It is definitely worth a peak, hell, got me back into online gaming. *shakes fist*
The grouping game is pretty much based on core classes, and there arn't that many classes. The ideal group is basically built around a priest, warrior, and mage. Other classes are mostly supporting in the group scene.
The warlock is a very powerful class in the game, but it wasn't my style in Everquest nor could any intellignece caster type be my style in any other game. The warrior, hunter, and shaman classes are my favorite, by far. The pvp aspect of the game is something worth looking into as well, and nicely done in my opinion (In Everquest, I hated pvp).
My advice would be to join a roleplaying server. These servers are generally inhabited by more mature players and less "battlenet kiddies". Twisting Nether is an especially hospitable server I've found (I have a level 15 hunter there named Efalindran) and is both roleplaying and pvp.
Alleria has Nydia, Faervas, and the gang (I'm trying to get more time to play, Nydia, I know, I know..Dreadnok must level!).
I guess you can't be a gnome warlock and still hang with Nydia and Faervas.

Well, even gnomes die eventually, and considering Palimax's history, I'd imagine death must be an old friend by now ;). In any case, we have found that there are worse fates than the loss of whatever-that-was that made us 'living' and bodily decomposition; and one gets used to it after a while and remembers where one left the roll of duct tape for emergencies... ;)
Warlocks are very useful in group situations, especially 5 man trips into tough areas (BRD/DM being my favorite places to take a warlock). Those times when Taruto (our warlock, playing only occasionally now) and I could quickly neutralize three mobs of the group rushing us (she'd have the trixie on one, a banished demon/elemental, and I'd have a sheep) and turn an ugly situation around (and Faervas could soulstone if we couldn't keep him up despite that) were some of my favorite situations in the game, and I miss having one with us. Also, the warlock epic steed finale in Dire Maul is, hands down, *the* coolest (lore/visually/event wise) and most intense event, single group or no, I've done in game, and I've seen Ragnaros... :)
We've got about 30 mostly former AC/CoFE and a few former RiP and RL friends hanging out with us; there's a big bunch in their 30s-40s right now, with Dayzee (now Xinthane) and a few others in their low 20s; generally right now there are 7-8 folks online in the guild at any given time (think the max I've seen at once is 12 so far), and we have 9 or so 60s (some have multiple 60s). Usually Faervas and I are doing mid-level instances with the crew or farting around during the week, a 60 instance on Friday or Sunday nights, and spend Saturday afternoon in MC with the Powerlamers (a raiding/PvP guild who is hosting MC/Ony raids that we have found we get on well with). Alleria/Horde is starting to mature nicely as a server side, and while we have the same problems with Chinese farmers, Bnet kiddies, etc, as everyone else, simply being Horde cuts down on the amount of that you will encounter a lot, and I've met a lot of really fun and grownup folks in several of the larger guilds there; there are several guilds of non-insular and good folks who loan each other players (since many of us have multiple 60s) in order to do Zul'Garub, Molten Core, etc, as well as a few insular hardcore raiding guilds which have very decent people (we raided with Ruin for several months before they went guild-only).
In any case, I hope you're enjoying your trial, and stop in and see us sometime :).
And Dreadnok, Xinthane is leaving you in the dust! I've stopped smithing you goodies on Nierka until I see some evidence of movement :P. But I'm glad that you're having a good time on a RP/PvP server. I'd imagine that could be a good time, the lower level PvP brackets here are very good as well here from what I've heard...
Warm regards,
Nydia
