I'm not sure if anyone else heard the news, but WoW subscriptions dropped over 600k in the last quarter, presumably due in part to Rift but mostly through the sparse amount of content in the most recent expansion and dramatic delays in pushing new content.

The good news for us MMO-ers is that after shareholders scolded them it seems the company has taken it as a wakeup call. They announced they will stall the siphoning of team members off of WoW for Titan and will increase production of both free new content and expansions. Regardless of the game(s) you like to play, more quality content leads to better competition across the board.

Other good news from the call yesterday is that Diablo 3 will start testing this summer :)

I didn't hear that news but I like hearing it. I think Blizzard got stagnant and cocky. I'm surprised they'd blink at 600k subs when they have 10mil though.

The game is seven years old, and it's only gotten more disposable over time. Not a big shock, if perhaps a bit sooner than expected. They also tanked pretty heavily before the Cataclysm expansion.

i think it has more to do with natural burnout than anything Blizz has or has not done. most of my friends have stopped playing mostly because after years of playing they are just flat bored with gaming in general. I havent canceled but i'm logging in anywhere the amount i used too. i'm really just ready for something new, not because i'm unhappy.

Titan is Blizzard's futuristic first-person shooter MMO.

Hmmm, could be interesting....

Wonder if it'll be the next true generation of an MMO.
