Not hearing good things. My brother is a huge fan and he was very disappointed. Here is his review
Chris Carter and Company need to go back and revist the first 7 seasons of the show (particularly seasons 2,3 & 4) to try and rediscover the magic. They had a wonderful 3 parter (Anasazi, Blessing way & Paper clip) that would have made a bang up movie with great reviews all around had they saved it till now. Another 2 parter dealt with the discovery of a WW2 P-51 mustang on the ocean floor whose pilot was still 'alive' due to alien influence. There are enough unsolved monster of the week baddies they could have easily pulled from to make a film that would have held you riveted to your seat. Kind of like Wrath of Khan proved back in 1982
This one had me reaching for an invisiable remote and wanting them to desperatly get to the point. The representative "monster" elements were not even remotely scary. The "Faith" aspects were okay, but perpetrated by a weak actor.
The score was very subdued and in the background. I'm sorry, but Mark Snow (being one of my favorite composers) does his best work on the Synclavier Synthesizer than he does with a full blown orchestra. I dont know why that is... but to ME it just is.
You could tell that Carter had a very limited budget on this one, but he's done better with 45 minutes and a deadline than he has in the time since the last film.
I've loved this show since it inception, and the monster hunter concept since Kolchak the Night Stalker in the 70s, but this film will probably put a nail in the X-Files franchise coffin for a while..

Yeah I keep hearing bad things too and I'm totally bummed. I loved the XFiles and watch the TNT reruns on Sunday mornings whenever able. I think this movie came many years too late and wished they would have done movies sooner or kept the series going. What a damn shame :( I will be waiting for DVD and not going to see this one in the theatre.

2 out of 10, i give it a two because of the show references in the movie even though there were only like 3
what the fuck seriously. They made fox and dana into fucking emo lovebirds, mourning the lose of their son for a millisecond. Skinner makes a useless 2-bit appearence in the movie. This was a fucking serial killer drama that should of starred Meg Foster. Seriously its like Chris carter tried to write a Kiss The Girls type script, no studio would buy it, so he added in the xfiles crew, made the preist a psychic and called it xfiles. It had no real "truth" as defined by the series. No grand coverup by the consortium, no people basically telling Mulder he got fucked and he has to eat it.
I am angry to my core, the movie has ruined the series for me. It ended IMo poorly with the addition of T2000, but I came to grips with it, now it opens this wound again and fills it with utter dog shit. Any hope for a renewal of the movie franchise just died last friday when the movie was released. I will be angry for days about this movie

to add, my recommendation to watch or rent this movie, even to pirate it would be on a list right below me recommending being anally probed xfile alien style by a fully developed spikey pine cone.

Wow Grey you sound slightly disappointed. Thank you for the review though, I will totally be saving my money on this one.

Tell us how you really feel Grey!! :)
I had no interest in seeing this to begin with, I was a fan of X Files for about the first 4 seasons, then I just lost interest.
Thanks for confirming that my money would be better spent elsewhere!
