Hope too many aren't planning on getting this new system for their kids ( honest I won't play it, honest!!).

I talked to a local Walmart rep and he claimed they were only getting 20 systems in for release date 22 Nov....ugh

Jade Empire is definetly going to be on 360, along with Bioware's next original game. Dunno about KotoR.

Nope. I got a buddy who works at Best Buy and they got in 30 of them the other night for the release date. They are going to open their doors at 12 AM on the 22nd to sell these 30 units. If there are actually 30 there when the doors open is an unknown. I also don't know if they are going to get more before the 22nd. I'd hate to be standing out there waiting, and get shut out. Not to mention that I'm still having fun playing H2. I don't need 360 to play it.

Heh my brother was talking about going with some friends to camp out overnight and sell em on eBay. He said they're going as high as $800 for Christmas delivery. Not bad profit for a night's worth of work.

I don't think I could justify buying it until it's been out for a while. Aside from the whole price thing, I think I'd like to see which companies stick with which platform. Besides, I haven't yet exhausted my PS2. ;)

Speaking of which, has anyone checked out the new Prince of Persia? That looks fun as hell.

Check Costco early and check Costco often. I came late, probably ten minutes after Costco opened their doors, no line. Suckers!

I'm wishing I'd pre-ordered one to sell on Ebay now. I probably could have paid for most of my X-mas presents.

Darus Grey

I got one(two actually, but second was for someone else), what a lame experience.

I pre-ordered a premium bundle when they were first announced.

I go yesterday during the afternoon to pick it up, "Sorry...all We have left is a Core for you"

So I grudgingly accept it "Bleh...I'll have to pay abit more for asseccories...oh well"

Oh wait...there was maybe 1 HDD shipped for every 6 cores?
Sucks to be me, without the HDD I can't use any of my work software, can't play old games, can't use live(I refuse to buy a memory card I'm just gonna toss soon as I get an HDD).

So my 360 is essentially non-functional at this point in time, and it seems like it'll be weeks before I get an HDD without paying $300 on ebay for one(uggg).

Worst launch I've ever been through, and I've been through almost all of them.

I'm selling my unopened xbox on ebay. If you're willing to buy it from me, send me a message and we'll handle it from there.

And yes, I agree, the sexbox 360 hasn't had a really smooth launch. I think PS3 should be infinitely better in terms of launch. Newbs.

Oh yeah, to give you some idea of its worth: http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Game-console-NIB-Ready-to-Ship_W0QQitemZ8236179971QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem

The thing about the PS2 is that I can't think of a single game that embodies the system, whereas, Halo 2 is the first game that comes to mind for XBox. Sony is in a lot of trouble right now. Its consumer electronics division is suffering. Walkmans are from a bygone era and its televisions are more expensive and technologically inferior to Sharp Aquos. Its film division hasn't generated revenue and its music division is in a lot of hot legal trouble for the copy protection software. The only saving grace is their playstation division... and so I dont have a lot of faith in sony right now ....

Darus Grey

its televisions are more expensive and technologically inferior to Sharp Aquos.

I'd simply disagree on this note, I have a horrible history with Sony products but as a videophile even I'm willing to admit they make the *best* PQ TVs *in general*.
Thier CRTs especially, (XBR960 still looks better then anything else on the market, even the new 1080P HPs I adore).

Though as you point out, you definetly pay a huge premimum for that *small* gap in quality.

But otherwise your right, the Playstation division since the original has made the lion's share of thier corporate profits, and for the last 4 years has more or less been carrying the company afloat.

Though since Sony has "announced" the PS3 to hit a price-point sub $400, I don't really see the possability of them not being market-leader for another generation.

Though I honestly wish these companies would stop the hype, though least I expect the lies from Sony, no idea why I thought MS would be any better in that department.
My favorite is "Dual-HDMI 1080P on two screens" , when with the current specs its impossible, the HDMI controller in it doesn't even have enough bandwidth to handle 1 1080p stream without some compression, I expect them to hype this up to make PS3 seem better then pull it close to launch for "Cost Issues".

Though perhaps I've just become cynical over the years.

Roliel

Yeah, Sony's pretty much fucked right now. I don't see the PS3 making much of a stir, seeing as the Xbox will have already established a strong foothold by the time Sony releases the PS3. I'll give them a lot of props for the PSP, but even that has its flaws, and I'm sure Microsoft or Nintendo could make something similar that would likely be much better.

The thing about the PS2 is that I can't think of a single game that embodies the system, whereas, Halo 2 is the first game that comes to mind for XBox.

Have you seen the game list that's out for Xbox 360 right now? It's like 11 games, 5 of which are FPSs. None being your major titles such as Halo.

On launch, PS3 is on target to release Tekken, Metal Gear Solid 4, along with a handful of other well-known titles. (Shortly afterwards Castlevania, Final Fantasy, and Devil May Cry are due.)

There's four major problems I have with the Xbox 360.

1)The launch was a complete pile of shit, as can be expected. I don't think ps3 will be a whole lot better honestly, though I'm hoping one of the reasons they are taking their time is to make it smoother.

2) A lot of systems are still completely screwed up. People have been reporting lots of crashes. There's cases where some of the systems can't progress past a certain point in games because of malfunctioning hardware. Pay $600 for a non-working console? No thanks.

3) The games coming out for Xbox 360... don't look that good. I realize that the 360 is very capable of coming out with games that look much better than the ones that came out on release. The cinematics do look very good, but I don't think the games out right now do the game a whole lot of justice, so I don't see a reason to rush out an buy it (unless of course you wanted to sell it on ebay.)

4)Honestly, its probably 'too rich for my blood.' With ps3 expected to be about 60% the price of Xbox 360, carrying a lot of my favorite titles, and being almost completely backwards compatible where Xbox 360 is only selectively backwards compatible, I think I'll wait.

Now where did I read that PS3 is likely going to come out closer to 500 than 300 hard earned dollars? Blast it I'll look for the link. It's also supposed to be a much better machine. But that could just be hype.

I do like how the Need for Speed game looks on the 360. Wow

Heh Sam, I think my largest problem with the 360 (and, I believe this would apply to the PS3 as well) is that it doesn't look that much better on a non-HDTV than a regular Xbox. I don't see myself affording one of those things (or wanting one, really) for a long time. ;p

Heh, speaking of which, I just got my PSP. I'm trying to get some import games cheap, such as 天誅:忍大全 (ローマ字: Tenchu: Nintaizen). Anyone know any sites with good prices? Lately, I've been trying yesasia.com.

There is no way someone actually paid $12,000 for an Xbox. You could bribe one out of a store for 1/10th of that easily.

Btw got my PSP a month ago and have been hooked on GTA and Socom. Played Untold Legends for the 12 hour plane ride to Europe and got bored with it pretty fast. Kills time at work like no other.

Xbox 360? Verdict's out still. Of course it wouldn't carry the Xbox brand name without a ratio of at least 60% FPS's and 40% other crap released on every other system.

If you just want to play FPS's why not just buy a better video card and play them on your computer? Mouse+Keyboard = TheWin for FPS's.

Of course Sony will counter with PS3 and some new form of Final Fantasy. Which everyone will rave about, and then start 521,040,312,530.021 lame ass pop-up filled tripod.com fan-sites filled with "FFXXXXXXXX Rox3rs!" and lame pixelated-blown-up-too-big JPEG chicken-scratch drawings they drew in first period math class of their favorite FFXXXXXXXXX characters.

In regards to launches being crappy. The PS2 launch was terrible, and in fact the PS2 has been the most troublesome of the two systems. But that sure didnt stop anyone from buying it. So I dont think thats really going to be an issue.

I'm actually considering a 360 now, mostly for two reasons.

I have hi-def output. (Well, sort of, my projector only does 1024x768, and multiple 16x9 video modes in 480i, but hi-def looks freakin' sweet on it.)
I run a 3-tuner Media Center PC, and the Media Center Extender is built into it.

The rumor is before Christmas, but if you didn't preorder, don't expect to get one until 2006 says Costco friend.

There are small batches hitting the stores on a regular basis. Most are keeping it quiet on their delivery dates so you have to either know someone or make regular runs ( while everyonelse is at work).
