You would have thought? So you didn't, but were going to? Why didn't you?
I'm not sure what your point is though. Mutual exclusivity has nothing to do with the fact that complaining now about it being full of tits and explosions is sort of silly. It was always obvious the movie wasn't going to be a documentary or romantic comedy. |

Zach Snyder has made some great movies, with tits and explosions. Dawn of the Dead was an extremely impressive reboot. The cinematography in Watchmen was fantastic. 300 was a downright amazing film. Suckerpunch is supposedly (since I won't waste the money to see it after all of the reviews are in) a cash grab aimed at the mindless and that is extremely disappointing and another disturbing step in the wrong direction for American cinema. The fact you can't make the connection as to what this is actually has me wondering ...

Come on. Everyone who watched that trailer knew what this was going to be about months ago. Complaining about the decline of "American cinema" based on this movie is like complaining about the lack of realism in Die Hard 4.

There are so many screenplays passed over, so many films that not a single theater are interested in buying because they feel it doesn't have the appeal that a film like Sucker Punch does apparently.
We're talking about a completely financed, shot, edited, finished award winning films that the theaters refused to consider screening yet they're willing to screen this film because they'll make a quick cash grab over it. And the personal shots aren't necessary. I worked on Die Hard 4 for like 3 days and our contributions I thought came out quite good. Remember, there wouldn't have been a Die Hard 4 if there wasn't a very good Die Hard. Its safe to say we won't see any Suckerpunch sequels. |

Centralized distribution is dying. You shouldn't be surprised that these theaters, which are companies with shareholders, are going to try to maximize their profits. They're snack bars with movie screens, not art schools.
I enjoyed Die Hard 4 for what it was. I might enjoy Sucker Punch the same way when it's on Netflix. However, I'm also not confused enough to consider either of them lasting or significant contributions to "American cinema" (or anything else more than they really are). You shouldn't be either. |

Apparently they cut out a lot to get the PG-13 rating, and so of course to drive DVD sales they're going to put it back in...

I finally got this from Netflix the other day, and watched it last night.
I loved the soundtrack, and the visuals were actually really well done. This is strictly aimed at those willing to waste a couple hours of their lives on total escapist fare, and it does that just fine. As to giving a critique of the movie itself, it really is not worthy of one; no character development, no credible story line, herky-jerky transitions between "reality" and fantasy planes, and so on and so on and so on..... It is strictly escapist fare! It is not meant to be nominated for any Oscars. It was fun seeing some talented folks having fun with some silliness while grabbing a paycheck. (And I was not including Vanessa Hudgeons in that, talented being the key word; I meant Jena Malone, Scott Glenn and Carla Gugino) Last edited by Bylimet Spiritwalker; 08-19-2011 at 07:10 PM.. |
