Default The Wheel of Time

*no spoilers please*

So I just finished book 6, on to A Crown of Swords. I've heard a lot of people say that in the middle of the series there are some books that get tedious / seem unnecessary. Those of you who've read it, is this the case? Which books in particular would you consider to be in that category? I was told one of the books (9?) goes back and retells a bunch of stuff that you've already read, but from different people's perspectives or something?

Been a while since I read some of these but it lost me at book 7. 1-5 are good.

Akom it's been many years since I read it myself. I was very hooked and engrossed with it until around book 8 or book 9 and then I just started losing interest but kept reading b/c I wanted to see it finish! The last one I read was Knife of Dreams. I have not read anything since then but plan to. I'm just waiting until I finish everything else.

I loved the ending of book 6.

I plan on reading through the end. I read at the gym and it's important to me to have a series that I get really involved in.. helps to keep me distracted and makes it easier to get my full hour. I lost 50 lbs in my initial weight lost stint while reading LotR. I actually stopped going to the gym when I finished it, lol. So far WoT has been great for gym reading, I'm just worried that I'm going to get to a book where it starts to lose me and then my gym time will be that much less bearable, heh.

Well, now that it's almost done, it's probably worth slogging through it all. Most of the bitching was incredulity that a book could go 800 pages without "insert my personal favorite storyline here" getting resolved. With each book, that leaves that many fewer pages available for personal favorite storylines as well.

My own problem? Just not enough Matt. He's my favorite. It's after 6 that the stereotype starts truly happening: "hnads cross over busoms, braids get tugged, noses go up in the air, rand goes mad and kills someone, rinse repeat".

There are two or three in middle somewhere that were just tedious as crap I thought as well. The really unfortunate thing though, you cant really skip them because despite lack of "action" tons of back story and minor details are explained and are called up by later books.

This most recent book however, rocked.

The latest of the series, taken by a new writer since Robert Jordan's death , was incredible. He obviously took it upon himself to wrap up some long standing bs....

I'm excited for the new volume due out in Oct 2010.

I really enjoyed the new book too, he took the meat of Robert Jordan's story and kinda trimmed off the fat and added in his own flavor... fuck I'm hungry this morning.

Anyways, some of the books do get a bit mired down, however they're worth reading as they flesh out the story provide little details that make things fit. I'm actually just finishing up book 6 again. I'm re-reading through the series in anticipation of book 13 (14 if you count the prequel)

PS!

They also have a book, kind of an encyclopedia-ish that goes along and has more in depth explanations of everything. I Just picked it up the other day since i had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket.

Interesting. I may pick that up when I finish the series.
