Written by Jon Krakauer. Details the murder of Brenda Lafferty and her daughter, along with the subsequent trial of the two responsible (Ron and Dan). This narrative, including the court proceedings and seeing how chillingly disturbed one of the brothers is, gets mixed in with Jon's investigation into the Mormon church as a whole to try to get context on the religion that apparently spawned the "Right with God" killers.

He goes into detail about both the founding of the church and the schism over polygamous marriage which ultimately led to the creation of fundamentalist (polygamy practicing) and mainstream Mormon churches. He also details the Mormon church's clash with various governmental and religious groups, both Mormon initiated and otherwise.

Probably one of my favorite non-fiction books next to Devil in the White City, which got a bit bogged down talking about the Worlds Fair (and not enough Dr. Holmes).
