Planetside ... don't look forward to it too much. I think SOE is quite happy with their new Free To Play with massive cash shops model for this one, and SOE has fucked gamers so many times now that I think a lot are a bit gun shy to buy another one of their products.

That was my thinking too. It was Sony's bumbling that killed PS and SWG. They seem to have gotten lucky with EQ, maybe just because of the strength of that title name. As much as I enjoyed Planetside, I won't touch anything from SOE.
A couple of other titles did catch my eye, especially the Mechwarrior one. |

Remains to be seen, for sure. But I'm ever the optimist. I loved PS1 so much. In fact, when they did the 45 days free for losing everyone's info, I went back and played PS for the 45 days.

All the SOE whining just makes me laugh these days. I personally am looking forward to PS2 and I look forward to friends and family beta

It probably depends on the game you played and your experience with SOE. After SWG and how that was handled, I swore off SOE. I know they publish some solid games - I try not to think about how much I sunk into EQ - but their business model leaves a lot to be desired, and they have run several other MMOs into the ground through mismanagement. That's not to say I'd never go back, or that Planetside2 doesn't tempt the hell out of me, but...

SoE has not been big into offering value as of late. More the opposite. The whole corporate culture is bad and its not just divisions like SoE. Its gross mismanagement all around. Take EQ for example. The player base as of late has been nickle and dimed to death with the Marketplace. Basically it is becoming a FTP game where you buy the features with microtransactions....but still pay a sub and buy expansions. What used to be incentive to buy an expansion now is released later in Marketplace. The mercenary roster is an example as well as items that add stats.
It is all about milking as much cash as possible and then reinvesting almost none of it back into the game to advertise, improve etc. Sony's stock has lost a massive amount of value. Its a company that hopefully will wise up and realize that the likes of Samsung and LG are going to kill Sony off if they don't get back on a path of innovation and offering value. The execs are doing a smash and grab at this point since bankruptcy can't be too far off. So yah, buy a SoE title only if you expect to get ripped off or treated to something half assed. Their console business still gets the priority. It might just be the industry itself. You go in a Game Stop or any store that sells games and you will see whole aisles for consoles but maybe an endcap at most for PC titles. Steam seems to be the only thing keeping PC gaming going and SoE doesn't do all that much with Steam.
