Default Vista security.

I found this interesting: http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/24/m...es-than-any-m/

So much Vista hate going around, yet very little justification.

I've only had one problem with Vista and that wasn't really Vista's fault. EQ2 absolutely would not run for me until I told it to run under XPSP2 compat and as administrator. It's SoE's shotty programming!

So I might be in the few and far between column but I actually like it now after having it for a few months. Like anything else it takes a little getting used to and you can tweak it so it doesn't hog resources.

I have always heard horrible things about Vista. I got a new laptop with Vista and so far I have had no problems. The only annoying thing was the initial setting where it won't let you delete anything without three messages asking you "Are you REALLY REALLY sure you want to DELETE this FILE?." Some of the other default settings are a little too much like hand-holding to me as well but with a little effort it is quite easy to de-Macify your PC.

I don't think I've heard any "hate" for Vista related to security. Pretty much all of it has been about usability.

XP has more. Mac has had more but corrects theirs in a timely manner, XP doesn't. You see Linux is the tallest on the graph, but probably one of the safest - especially compared to XP. On Linux you need to be a super high up user and enter the root and its virtually virus free, XP not so much.

A valid point from the post's comments...

But first year vulnerabilities? Maybe they're so low because hackers don't feel like learning the new ways around windows security when there are still tons of XP machines to make into zombies.
Personally, I've had no problems with Vista on my Thinkpad... no gaming, just development and Office 2007 work though.

I'd bet there are more Vista machines active than OS X 10.4 though. So, I don't necessarily buy that as a reason to discount the numbers, comparatively.
