I`ve always wondered this, just why the hell is this US only event in baseball actually called The 'World series' ? seeing as it only involves the US
What..afraid someone might beat you at your own game Don`t feel bad,the English haven`t won the world cup since 1966 Here`s an interesting fact : Numbers don't lie. Or do they? > > A bit of world cup fun : > > Brazil last won the world cup in 1994. > Before that they won it in 1970. > Add 1970 and 1994, it equals 3964. > > Argentina last won the world cup in 1986. > Before that they won it in 1978. > Add 1978 and 1986, it equals 3964. > > Germany last won in 1990. > Before that they won in 1974. > Add 1990 and 1974, it equals 3964. > > Here's the scary part: > > England last won the cup in 1966. > Add it to 1998... > > IT EQUALS 3964!! Sadly we didn`t win the cup, thus negating that little thoery ![]() |

Not a U.S. only event. Canada has two professional baseball teams that have each won the world series. There are no professional baseball teams that exist outside of Canada and the U.S. We do however have baseball players from many different countries that are NOT U.S. citizens who play in the major league. So I suppose you could say that the best of all countries is represented.

Baseball was invented in the US....I always thought that the term "World" was put in place when the US was the only country playing it.
"What..afraid someone might beat you at your own game" Not likely, the rest of the world is smartly playing a better sport called football (soccer in the US :') disclaimer - the previous statement portrays only one man's opinion and does not in anyway try to reflect the opinions or beliefs of anyone else or any country :'p |

I for one would be willing to bet that the Yankees could beat any team composed of players that are not current ML baseball players in 4 straight games, regardless where in the world they are from. For example, the "best" Japanese home run hitter from the past few years joined the Yankees this year. He bats 7th.

It's the "World Series of Every Team Good Enough to Compete."
Does that help? Baseball is a pretty big sport outside of the United States. It's very popular in Latin America and Japan. Yes, as was said before: While Baseball is played in 162-game seasons, and you play teams multiple games to determine ANYTHING, I'd still take nearly any MLB team with a winning record against a team comprised of the "best 25 people not playing baseball in the MLB." |
