Default Boats Lose in WoW too

Yep, just like in EQ, the boat system of transportation is causing too many problems, and tonight they closed down a number of servers to begin implementing a system of teleport NPC's. If it works as planned, all servers will have the change rolled in over time.

I hate it when they do stuff like this, the boats make games seem so much more real and tangible.

Well that stinks :/. What's the point of having ports then? Booty Bay will certainly lose its charm... and what about us Horde who like to take joyrides around, say, Feathermoon Outpost? (Faervas and I took the boat from the Feralas dock to see where it went and stayed well back on the boat when we noticed that the welcoming committee was shall we say unfriendly ).

So, yeah, the airship occasionally fails to rematerialize under people making the crossing from Orgrimmar/Undercity to Grom'gol as well (not so bad if you're over water, kind of squishy if you're over land ). Does that mean that they're going to replace the airships as well?

I really really hope they don't take the 'easy way' out here. Technology is fallible, ya' know? And WoW already has a charming theme of warning users that technological devices may (and do) malfunction at any time... I think it'd be better, in the worst case situation, just to leave the boats alone and give the goblins at the docks a dialogue about how perfectly safe and effective the mode of transport is (see Hin Denburg's dialogue when you greet him re the airship ride from UC to Grom'gol) ...

Regards,
Nydia

Nydia,

This made me think of: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." (Arthur C. Clarke)

And bummer, the boats were fun. They took them out of EQ2 as well. /sigh the devs are no fun.

That sucks.
Must be a pretty hot topic considering that they shut down the chat forums on the main site.
Which doesnt supprise me since they love to do nothing but lock/delete posts anyway.

I had hoped that they had learned from the mistakes EQ had made.
It seems to be amplified though.

Have you heard something about a boat or zepplin other then the one between Menethil and Auberdine that I have not Bylimet, or are you just jumping to conclusions based on the quote from blizzard?

Quote:
Today’s maintenance removed the boat that traveled from Menethil Harbor to Auberdine from the realms listed below. Two new NPCs, Captain Placeholder in Menethil Harbor and Captain Noteo in Auberdine, have been placed on the docks where players used to board this boat. Opening a dialog with these NPCs will allow players to travel between the two cities.
(On the login screen they stated this will be moved to all servers.)

That only mentions one boat, not the entire system.

Heh, big surprise, the boat system that 60% of the playerbase is crammed onto has issues on the most populated servers. Probably one of those 40 man exp groups the Alliance seems to need to kill anything.

Yes, because as we all know, since the alliance are the more popular side, every damned one of them are skill-less zergs.

Precisely. See, they couldn't even solo the boat ride.

Gotta appeal to the "I won't touch a game that doesn't have godmode" crowd somehow. Gentlemen, I give you, Paladins.
