Default Roleplay and communication - newbie questions

Heya!

I'm playing a bit of WoW on a friend's account, and contemplating buying a account of my own.

So, I have one general and one speciffic question.

The general question is about the differences between the types of servers, especially the normal servers and the roleplay servers.

The speciffic question is about communication and grouping over the faction lines.

The by far most fun thing in EQ for me was roleplaying over the faction lines. But I'm told that in WoW it's not possible even to communicate at all, much less roleplay. I'm quite certain that this is set in stone on the PVP servers, my old friend Kivorn have a level 60 there.

But I did hear a rumor that horde characters can somehow learn the alliance language, and vice versa, on the normal and/or roleplay servers. Is there any truth to this?

It's not like I'm gonna set my foot upon a PvP server anyway.

Howdy

As far as I know (though what I know isn't much ^_^) there is no ability for horde/alliance to communicate.

I know during the beta that the undead were supposed to be able to communicate on both sides, but that was taken away before launch.

If there is a way to learn the alliance languages, please post it here folks. I've been ITCHING to give some alliance some smack talk.

Regards

Well, some people have figured out the "language" that's used by the other side for simple things (like "HA HA" and "LOL"), but not for anything more complex....

Actually they nerfed (are about to nerf?) that. Their encrypting scheme now includes characters such as \, /, |, numerical characters and so on, so no more |_ 0 |_ or 0 \/\/ /\/ 3 |0 or whatever variation of l33tsp34k words they use.

And to answer the original question, no, on no servers are Horde and Alliance able to communiate to each other, other than through using game-provided emotes. Custom emotes (/em thinks %t is a retard) are translated into gibberish by their filter.

Another question about this:
Can I chat ingame with friends who are playing on different servers?
Is this also restricted by faction, so that I can't talk with a friend who is playing a gnome on one server while I play a undead on another?

I know I can send mail to people who are on the same faction and on the same server. Can I also send mail (without items, of course) to people on other servers? Is this restricted by faction?

There's no way to communicate between factions, no matter what.

No, I mean I read that people figured out what set of characters "translate" into things like "HA HA" and "LOL", ie, someone from the Horde would type '/shout XR XR' and the Alliance in the area would see "HA HA".

If you wanted to talk to your friend playing the other faction on another server, the only means you have to communicate is through some external means, such as instant messaging or voice comm.

No communication between factions. That includes if you learn "orcish". Saying "Lok'tar" to an orc as an alliance character will scramble it anyway. Leet speek will, and should be, nerfed. The last time a horde character shouted "owned" in leet speek over public channels after ambushing me I corpse camped him for two hours with a few friends. Man that was infuriating.

Also, no in-game mail to separate servers. No cross-server channel communication.

You're on your server, in your faction. Nothing more.

Welcome to WoW Edeina.

It can be a bit of a hassal not communicating with the opposite faction, but after a while you get used to it. If you have regulars on an opposing faction, you could always look at using Teamspeak or something like that.

Hey Edeina!!

Welcome to WoW Now all you need to do is find a way to sneak onto Alleria/Horde ...

As far as interfaction communication, there isn't any, and it's probably a good thing too. Every time I am unfortunate enough to need to take one of my alts to the Crossroads or Tarren Mill for quest handins, and I hit that wall of lag and that sea of level 60 Alliance swarming the town for the zillionth time, I have to fight the urge to ask if them if they don't ever get tired of it all. Or last night, when landing Nydia at Light's Hope in Eastern Plaguelands to find two groups of flagged Alliance killing the Horde rider, who then decided to run circles around me and emote until I finished picking up my quests and left for Strath, a few choice words came to mind, but I had to settle for the /rude emote (which is pretty choice on the undead females and expresses my view on the matter perfectly ).

If there was any way for opposite faction folks to actually talk to each other, it might ease some tensions... but there also might end up being some arrests . Best of luck in WoW, and hopefully there will be a way for us to interserver speak someday...

Warm regards,
Nydia
