Default X-Men: First Class

Caught this at the weekend. Was an excellent movie, really enjoyed it and I'm so glad they're continuing to develop this franchise as the original trilogy was excellent (even enjoyed the not-so-popular third installment).

However, I felt it had a few clichés which really stopped it from being brilliant:

Kevin Bacon was *the* stereotypical bad-guy, from the white suite to the submarine!
Why did they have Xavier using his hands on his head to denote mind control? It was painful to watch!
Some of the mutants were useless, including a stripper who had butterfly wings, and a guy who screamed a lot.

Nonetheless, I would recommend seeing it for its retro feel and excellent story. 8/10, easy.

Banshee was actually a fairly powerful Xman...not only for his variable voice control but for his years spent with Interpol...

However they forgot to make him Irish ;(

How far in advance did you buy your tickets when you heard that teenage boys in colorful tights were going to be all over the big screen, Fandros?

Prepare for geek:

Darwin is newish. The character started off as a girl who could adapt to anything and
help free Xavier when most the X-Men where down and out. Was a pretty bad ass story in Genosha. She was blonde hair blue eyes and codenamed Lifeguard when John Q took over Marvel and redid the X-Men into the current Beast and the diamond Emma Frost. IMO, the character was changed into the Darwin due to a lack of diversity in the comic books at the time.

There where more blue characters getting used frequently in Marvel (Nightcrawler, Beast, Mystique) than black (not in the literal sense) at that time frame.

Oh, and I love the fact they even mentioned the Hellfire Club. Wonder if we get to see the Black side of it in the next movie. Seleen aka Black Queen is bad ass and could be a good part in a movie.

Great film, though it obviously strayed quite a bit from the comics. Does make me wish that Marvel was going to re-number like DC is to get back into it. Online reading is so cumbersome and the graphic novels are quite expensive

Still think Kevin Bacon played that character far too stereotypical. Felt like Dr Evil at one point.

That's kind of the character Sebastian Shaw is though. He's a world domination complected megalomaniac. Comic books play up stereotypes frequently. I enjoyed the movie, probably better than the original series (minus the first one, maybe).
